SCHOOL COMMUNITY CALENDAR
Please check the PCPS community calendar for upcoming and future dates as the calendar is regularly updated https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/community-calendar
ENROL YOUR CHILD NOW
Due to our excellent reputation in the wider community, we are currently experiencing high enrolments.
If you have a little one at home that has not yet commenced at PCPS, I urge you to submit an application immediately to the school.
Some of our families have missed out on a position as they forgot to submit their enrolment form.
Admin staff are not aware if you have younger ones at home so an enrolment form is essential.
Even if your child is only a few months old, please submit an application form now.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Family Mass
Our PCPS Family Mass held recently was so beautiful.
It was wonderful to see so many families and staff and parishioners celebrating the liturgy together.
It was heart-warming to see the future leaders of the Church, our children, taking on roles such as readers, altar servers, welcomers, choir members and collectors alongside many parents.
Huge thanks to Family Mass co ordinators Severine Gibson and Liz De Haas, as well as all parents who were able to play a role in this special mass.
Padbury Cares
Padbury Cares co ordinator Ruth Tan continues to work hard behind the scenes with the Leadership Team to ensure that families within our own school community, who are in need, are being looked after. Thank you so much Ruth.
Padbury Cares is a group of parent and staff volunteers, who provide assistance to families in our school community during a time of need (either short or long term) due to illness, bereavement, family crisis, birth of a newborn or any type of change. Thankyou to our volunteers, you make such a difference in the lives of others.
If you can offer assistance in any way throughout 2023, we would love for you to volunteer. Please head to our school website- https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/padbury-cares
Some examples of help that we offer are: providing a simple family meal or lunch that is delivered to the school office; transport of children to and from school; ironing, cleaning, shopping, baking, gardening, dog walking etc.
Generally, we would ask people to help once a semester and it is mostly providing meals. Many hands make light work and your help really does make a difference.
If you are in need of some assistance or know of someone who requires some assistance, please contact Ruth or Mrs Ellen at the office.
This is a very confidential pastoral care programme and no details are shared.
Interschool Cross Country
Huge thank you to Susan Kadak from the P&F for coordinating the sausage sizzle and to her team of helpers who were continuously cooking and serving sausages throughout the day.
Reports
First semester reports will be sent electronically next week.
The children have been working extremely hard and parents I know you will be super proud of their achievements throughout the first half of the year.
Please do not hesitate to see your classroom teacher should you have any difficulties interpreting the report.
As this will be the last newsletter before the school holidays, I would like to wish everyone a nice break from school and enjoy time with your family and friends.
Mrs Margaret Williamson
Principal

REACH OUT WITH LOVE
Our REACH OUT WITH LOVE PROJECT FOR 2023 will be held next week on Wednesday 28 June.
We invite all students and staff to come dressed in their own comfy pyjamas and donate a gold coin.
We also invite students and staff to donate a new pair of pyjamas that we can send to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. You can purchase pyjamas for any age you wish. This can include younger children, teenagers or adults. Or you may wish to purchase gloves, beanies, scarves or warm socks instead.
Winter is a difficult time for many who are less fortunate than ourselves. For some, sadly, keeping warm or having somewhere warm to stay is not an option. We can provide some comfort for these people by supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
Thank you for your support in helping us raise much needed funds and to provide some warmth this winter for those who are struggling. We look forward to seeing you all in your pyjamas.
Parents Sign In
Just a reminder to parents that if you on the school site after dropping off your child/ren you must sign in at the front office eg on classroom roster, dropping off children's lunch, volunteering for P&F events etc. and you must wear the visitor badge.
PCPS WEBSITE
Our PCPS website has so much information about our wonderful school. Please take the time to click on the links and read –
School Performance Data - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/school-performance-data
Each year, schools are required to report school performance data on aspects of their operations from the previous year. You will find in this data, PCPS NAPLAN performance. You will find that in both Year levels, in all subject areas, PCPS Mean is higher than the national mean. Please go to www.myschool.edu.au and follow the links to the NAPLAN results where you can also compare to other schools.
Child Safe Framework - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/childsafeframework
Child safety continues to be a key priority for all Catholic schools. The Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) Child Safe Framework, launched in 2018, encourages and supports every member of Catholic school communities to make good decisions that always keep the best interests of the child or young person first.
Protective Behaviour Programme - Keeping Safe Child Safe Curriculum – https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/keepingsafe
As part of the Child Safe Framework, Padbury Catholic has implemented the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum from Pre-kindergarten to Year Six. The programme is integrated into the curriculum and is presented in a developmentally, age-appropriate manner and delivered within the teachings of our Catholic identity.
Student Management Guidelines- https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/_files/ugd/8592a2_3fe6f84485a94ee38753fd3951d7140b.pdf
PCPS endeavours to ensure all children accept responsibility for their education and behaviour, understanding that attitudes and behaviours have a natural consequence.

Student Code of Conduct - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/_files/ugd/8592a2_365fc3be014a46b9a27e2e976abea850.pdf
A the beginning of this year our Social Worker Mrs Fisher worked with a group of Yr 6 students to compile the PCPS Student Code of Conduct. The children were representatives of the children within our school community and have done a phenomenal job in producing this living document. All class teachers have reviewed this Student Code of Conduct with their class and discussed it in conjunction with the PCPS Student Management Guidelines classes have took on board and the Student Complaint Process.
Student Complaint Process - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/_files/ugd/8592a2_d80f12c78b2348eca3287038482a7769.pdf
PCPS recognises the right of an individual student to feel free to voice a concern. Staff will endeavour to investigate, address and, if required, resolve that concern in an open and fair manner. If a student has a concern that they would like addressed, they follow the guidelines which are discussed with them by the class teacher.
PCPS Code of Conduct - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/_files/ugd/8592a2_cad84a6a559846588999dd460b13ed33.pdf
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students. Breaches of the Code must be notified to the Principal and/or Leadership Team.
PCPS has a number of policies and guidelines and procedures, as above, to enhance student safety and well being. In addition we have our Social Worker, Mrs Fisher, who is a wonderful resource for students and families. We are also fortunate to have our School Psychologist, Mrs Bryant and CEWA Student Learning Needs Consultant Mrs Buck, who also provide us with great assistance and expertise in regards to student safety and well being.
Complaints Handling Process - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/policies
PCPS follows the CEWA Dispute and Complaint Resolution Policy
PCPS has a user friendly Complaints Handling Process. Parents are welcome to discuss concerns of any kind, at any time. It is more efficient, considerate and convenient to both parents and teachers if an appointment is made, so that full attention can be given to the issue at hand.
Parents are asked to direct all classroom queries to the classroom teacher first. Parents may then wish to discuss further concerns with the Assistant Principal PK-2 or Assistant Principal Yr 3-6. Should there still be further concerns after meeting with one of the Assistant Principals, then parents may discuss concerns with the Principal.

Extension and Robotics
Space Dome Insursion
This week lucky Year 3-6 Extension and Robotics students were privileged to participate in an exciting experience from SciTech. We entered a large Space Dome that took us through a journey to explore our Solar System. Learning that in future years there could be humans living on Mars was hard to believe, well, they would have to live underground because of the gravity issues! We also learnt about gravity and how it affects humans on the International Space Station. Have you ever wondered what happens to your tears if you are up in space? Well, there is no gravity to pull them down so they literally sit on your face and pool around your eyes!
After the Space Dome and landing back on Earth, we participated in a workshop to build a Rover that could land safely on Mars. This proved to be an exciting challenge and lucky for us, our knowledge from our Egg Drop Unit with Mrs Bottega gave us some skills to survive.
We were very thankful to be a part of this incursion. We learnt so many facts and had such a great time. A fantastic experience that we all enjoyed. Thank You Mrs Bottega and the SciTech team.
Written by Sean and Naomi (Year 6) on behalf of the incursion students.
Sport
It has been another huge term in sport. We started the term with all our Interschool Winter sport activities. After training for a few weeks our Year 5 and 6 students played netball, AFL, soccer and tag rugby against St Lukes CPS. We had lots of fun competing and meeting new friends from another school.
On June 8 we participated in our annual Lightning carnival. Seven schools competed in the competition. Thank you to the parents who assisted with coaching and managing teams. The weather was wet however they are all Winter sports and all the children thoroughly enjoyed the day. All teams had success during the day. Thanks to Mr Darby, Mrs Westrope, Mrs Barry, Mr O’ Mara and Mrs Williams for assisting on the day.
