Dolphin Splash
Jackie Robinson Academy Weekly Newsletter 9/9/23
Dear JROB Families!
Our motto for attendance is: "Miss 5 days or less for school success!" Our goal for each student is to have 97% school attendance for the entire school year. We understand that illness and emergencies happen, but for planned doctor's appointments, please do your best to schedule them outside of the school day. Every day missed is a missed learning opportunity!
Whether absences are excused or unexcused, students who do not attend school regularly and on time jeopardize their ability to develop healthy life habits and important social skills, and have an increased chance of not performing well academically and dropping out of school. Students who are not in school are also more likely to be involved in a crime, either as victims or perpetrators. When they become adults, they struggle with maintaining good jobs and good health.
Here are some tips for helping get your child to school on time, everyday:
1. Pick out clothes and lay them out the night before
2. Pack backpacks, jackets, and school supplies the night before and put them by the door
3. Post a checklist of what needs to be done (brush teeth, get dressed, breakfast, etc)
4. Maintain a consistent routine so everyone knows their part to getting the family out the door and to school on time
If you're having a hard time, reach out to our school counselor, Dr. Hosn or social worker, Mrs. Luna! We're here to help!
With dolphin pride,
Principal Ngo

SSC & ELAC Parent Representatives Needed
Are you looking for ways to become involved in your child’s school? We have two opportunities for you.
We are looking for parents to join our School Site Council (SSC). This is a group of parents and school employees who work together to coordinate the school’s educational services to improve academic performance of all students, as well as provide interventions for students not meeting academic performance. This collaborative group of school staff, parents and community members who analyze school data, approve and/or recommend expenditures of certain categorical funds and help analyze the effectiveness of the use of those funds. The meetings are about once a month for about an hour. If you are interested, please complete this form. School Site Council Parent Interest Form. Elections for parent representatives will take place during Back-to-School Night. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Thornley at dthornley@lbschools.net.
We are also looking for parents to join our English Language Advisory Council (ELAC). This group is an advisory body comprised of parents of English Learners and school staff to make recommendations to the School Site Council regarding the use of school funds to meet the needs of EL students. The meetings are about once every other month for about an hour. If you are interested, please complete this form. English Language Advisory Council. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Thornley at dthornley@lbschools.net.
