Hump Day Happenings
Issue 5 ~ 9/20 thru 9/26
New Arrival Procedure
Our Administration team observed the first few weeks of school, listened to parent feedback and decided that a change was needed to improve the flow of traffic into the school in the mornings. Thank you to those of you that shared feedback!
I know it's only Hump Day but I've already noticed less congestion in the mornings. I hope that you are noticing too.
Speaking of Breakfast
Did you know that ALL Kilgour students can eat FREE breakfast at school? Ms. Sharon and the Cafeteria team prepare a breakfast that consists of a several options. Some student choices are mini maple pancakes, glazed breakfast bites and even a southwest burrito!
Check out the remaining September options in the menu below.
Kilgour to Participate in the FFVP through the end of the school year
This is a CPS program that allows each student to taste fresh fruits and veggies as well as learn facts about the day's selection. Be sure to ask your students about the program and whether they've tried something new at school.
A note from the office
FYI... Kilgour is a Non-SBHC school.
Club Updates
There's a bit more availability for our 4th-6th grade clubs. So, if you have a student in those grades looking for something different and fun to do after school be sure to complete the interest form here.
All ABC clubs started this week and will continue weekly through December. New club opportunities will be available in January of next year.
Chess club is returning next week with sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks to our partners at Proscan through the Chris Collinsworth Foundation we will have 2 classes per week this year. In addition to the extra session, each of our participants will receive a free Chess Kid account that will allow them to practice more than just 1 hour a week and play virtually with other kids interested in Chess. The bravest can even challenge our instructor, Mr. Salaam to a match virtually.
Chess club will also run through December with new opportunities in January. So don't worry if you didn't get your student involved this time around.
The 5th grade Magic Club is having it's first meetings this week. Magik Mark shared that this year's group of 5th graders might be his biggest yet! Magic club takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays through December. Participants receive a magic kit with about 10 tricks to start. They work with volunteer, Mr. Mark Hogan mastering tricks and adding to their kits each week.
Interested in learning more? Visit Magik Mark's website here.
Chuy's Cubing Club will be hosting an informational meeting on Friday, 9/29 after school from 4p-4:30p in the library. It will be an opportunity to learn more about cubing and the goals of the club. Everyone is welcome to join whether you've completed the interest form or not. We're looking forward to starting a new amazing club and we hope you'll join us.
You still have time to complete the interest form here.

WHY: Kilgour receives a smaller portion of funding relative to other CPS schools so our community and families need to fill the gap. The funds raised by the PTA are used for academic enrichment, classroom supplies, field trip buses, professional development for teachers, and much more. The silent auction is Kilgour PTA's biggest annual fundraiser and we've found that donations by families of Kilgour raise the most money at silent auction!
SPECIFIC HELP NEEDED: Think about whether you or someone you know in your network can donate items for the auction. For example:
- Own a small business? We can advertise for you as part of your donation!
- Do you have season tickets to sports, arts, or other events that you are willing to donate?
- Know someone who works for sports teams or a restaurant or provides a service? Ask them to donate! If you aren't comfortable asking people you know for a donation, let us know and we can contact them on your behalf!
Thank you in advance for helping us offer new and exciting auction items this year!
Please email silentauction@kilgourpta.org with donations!

Meet Kelsey Folzenlogen, Kilgour's Community Mental Health Therapist
Hi Everyone!
My name is Kelsey Folzenlogen and I am the lead Mental Health Therapist at Kilgour, through Child Focus. I am very excited to be beginning my 6th year here! I provide one-on-one therapy for students in grades Kindergarten through Six, presenting with low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, inattentiveness, or other concerns. I think it is very important for kids to feel safe and comfortable in the therapy environment, so, beyond “talk therapy,” I incorporate elements of play, art, and role playing to help clients practice their skills. Students are referred to me by teachers, administration, our school social worker, our school psychologist, or parents themselves!
I am at Kilgour Monday-Friday every week, located in the office in the back of Mr. O’s library. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, or if you wish to refer your child for services!
I am looking forward to a wonderful 2023-2024 school year!
