But, a squirrel chose to interfere with the power lines & caused an outage that super-charged the power entering the building. A fire in the wall near an outlet in the women's dorm resulted. It took a while to find the source & put out the fire. The conservative measures taken earlier this year, enables us to pay back the 10% pay cut to our employees. We appreciate our employees & regret any harm this reduction had on their families, thank you!

City Hospital is planning two testing sites at High School & Hospital - COVID testing is free & there are no limitations on who can get tested, more information on Hospital website [FUNDING: Hospital]; citizens group has asked we consider permitting UTV on city streets, ordinance is under development; Mayor Sharon Powell, Melinda Mehaffy, & Molly McGovern met with MCC & Cities of Kearney/Smithville to discuss how MCC can provide services our communities desire; letters are going out this week to property owners in vicinity of new sewer line installed on H Hwy & Shirewood to connect to sewer; [FUNDING: CIP] WHY? provides an opportunity for property owners to solve septic tank failures & pollution. We will be discussing how to improve our maintenance in the cemeteries [FUNDING: Cemetery lot sales] WHY? this requires us to either restrict how individuals decorate burial sites or limit maintenance, which is our current plan & it is not working, it is looking shabby. The City was awarded the Premier Partner Award by DEP at their recent annual dinner, we were recognized for our willingness to be of assistance to DEP, not just one department, but across all city departments - Police, Fire, Public Works, Parks, Community Center, Golf, Community Development, & City Manager/Council.
