MEET SELC, our mascot! He is an eaglet who will grow up to be an Enfield High School Eagle.
October 6, 2023
It was fantastic to see so many families at our Open House this week! I hope you all found the format to be fun, engaging, and a good use of your time. Just a reminder (as noted below), there is NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY the 9th or TUESDAY the 10th. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in school on Wednesday.
A few reminders:
- No School on Monday October 9th or Tuesday October 10th
- Payment for iPad insurance is due by 10/15/23. You can send a check payable to Enfield Public Schools, cash handed to a classroom staff so they can document accordingly, or on MySchoolBucks (See DIRECTIONS BELOW).
- Health and safety are top priorities and I thank you for doing your part! Nurse Jen and I are so grateful for how diligent all of you have been in regards to monitoring your child for illness, asking questions as they arise, and keeping the lines of communication open so that we can keep everyone feeling their best!
- Remain vigilant of your surroundings when driving through our parking lots. Our clientele are nearly 100% under or around 3 feet tall and it can be hard to see them!
- Nurse Jen will need proof of flu vaccination by December 22, 2023. You can email it to her jmaier@enfieldschools.org, send in a hard copy, fax it (860) 253-0096!

iPad Explorers
As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and interactive learning experiences, we will be sending a weekly iPad activity designed to combine technology with family bonding.
UPDATE
For those of you looking to do more with camera and markup:
- let your child be a photographer and then mark up as they wish
- look for leaves changing color and mark them up or change the filters
- look for things in groups (i.e. socks, spoons, pictures on the fridge, etc.), have them take a picture and then count how many are in the set

Executive Function...what is it and what does practice look like in action in PK?
Executive Function Strategy: LINEAR CALENDAR
Description:
The Linear Calendar is done as a whole group activity. This is a teacher-led activity that takes the place of a typical matrix calendar activity. Children practice math concepts, counting and passage of time.
How we do it…
We use pictures of buses or backpacks to represent school days on the calendar, and pictures of houses to represent the home days. These pictures/days fall into the same pattern with 2 days home and 5 days at school. While the teacher points to each day/number the children clap while counting to help them learn one to one correspondence.
What are children learning?
*Concept of time. (order or sequence of events, before/after, yesterday/today/tomorrow, “if yesterday was 5 today is?”)
*Units of time (month, weeks, days of the week)
*Counting skills (rote and meaningful counting, numeral recognition, how many days until, how many days since)
This activity focuses on the following Executive Function skills:
Working Memory by remembering what day we are on and what is coming next; also by remembering the steps of the strategy
Self Regulation by counting and clapping out the numbers
Cognitive Flexibility by showing we can have changes in our schedule and it is okay to adjust it
