Measure BB Continues to Improve Schools

Every ABC Unified School District school has seen improvements through Measure BB. Our elementary schools have new playground equipment and surfaces, security cameras, and water bottle filling stations. Most of the work at Artesia and Whitney High Schools is finished, including updated classrooms, science facilities, and media centers. Work is going on at Cerritos and Gahr High Schools, where classrooms will be updated, new science facilities will be added, and media centers will be upgraded. Although not part of Measure BB, many ABCUSD schools, facilities, and offices will have solar panels installed. When the solar project is completed, the sun will provide about 85% of the District’s energy needs.

Multi-Service Vaccination Sites

COVID-19 vaccinations remain the best way to prevent serious illness caused by the virus, and they are now available for nearly all ages. The L.A. County Department of Public Health is hosting Multi-Service Vaccination Sites, including on-site COVID-19 vaccination, testing, and test-to-treat. Monkeypox vaccination is also available. Mental Health Resources for Youth

The California Department of Health and Human Services has launched a new website that provides mental health resources to kids and young adults. The site features a wide variety of resources for kids and families, from how to deal with returning to school to stress relief activities for kids. Check out the website to learn more.

Cerritos Active Shooter Seminar

The City of Cerritos, in partnership with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, will be holding an Active Shooter Seminar on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. Learn how to react quickly in an active shooter situation, respond when law enforcement arrives, and control bleeding in life-threatening situations.

Whitney High School Robotics Club Featured in Publication

Pitsco, an organization dedicated to a hands-on approach to STEM education, recently featured the Whitney High School robotics club in its “Can’t Hold Down Hands-On Learning” publication. The article about Whitney’s robotics club, called “Hands On, Minds On, Hearts On: Paying It Forward” showcases their efforts to bring STEM to other students. You can read the article here.

ABCUSD will send important documents electronically using our Secure Document Delivery System. Parents or guardians will receive an email, text, or app notification with a secure link to their individual documents. After clicking the link, they can enter their ParentSquare password to access the document. It’s that easy!
