Boyden Weekly Update
February 2, 2024
Dear Boyden Families,
We had a great week at Boyden!
JiJi from ST Math made a visit to Boyden on Thursday to celebrate our students who have reached 100% Puzzle Progress on their ST Math journey! Fifty-three students from grades K-5 earned their certificate and got their picture taken with JiJi for our ST Math Wall of Fame. The expectation at this time of year is for students to be at 46% so students have lots of time to reach the 100% goal. We look forward to celebrating more students each month as they strive to hit 100%.
Enjoy the weekend!

Confetti Foundation...1 WEEK LEFT!
Student Council is sponsoring their first community service project of the year and Boyden will be supporting the Confetti Foundation. The mission of the Confetti Foundation is to supply birthday parties to children who have to spend their birthday in a hospital. In order to support their amazing mission we will be collecting birthday party supplies from January 29th to February 9th. Kindness Week 2/12 - 2/16
The week of February 12th through Febraury 16th is Kindness Week across Walpole! At Boyden, we have many things planned. We will be highlighting kindness during our morning announcements, at Morning Meetings, and through daily kindness activities. We are also asking students to get invovled by dressing up each day. See below:
Attendance
There is much research about chronic absenteeism, engagement, and the importance of regular on time school attendance. What we know is that students who have regular on time attendance are more likely to achieve at higher rates than students who are chronically tardy or absent from school. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year which equates to 18 days across the year.
We ask that you work with us to prioritize school and minimize absences when possible. If for some reason you are planning an extended absence, please reach out me to discuss your plan.
Elementary Standard Based Report Cards
The Term I report card communicates student progress toward meeting end-of-the-year learning standards. The slight, but important, change we made last year to the descriptors of the Academic Performance Levels this year is the phrase “at this time”. The purpose of adding this phrase is to share with families where their students are academically, at this time of the year.
Teachers assess student performance against these learning standards, which are specific and observable grade-level skills. Our report cards reflect the learning standards as outlined in the current Massachusetts State Frameworks. Teachers assess by measuring individual student performance against the identified concrete learning standards, rather than in relation to the performance of other students.
