Thoughts from Dr. Voelkl
Happy FALL to everyone!!!
This past week our Kindergarten parents were visited by Amy Maus, a licensed clinical social worker with West County Psychological Associates. While she shared a number of items related to the overall development of little people, one of the topics that stuck with me was the IMPORTANCE of sleep at ALL ages. As so many of us have gradually reentered many of or "pre-Covid" ways of life our schedules and activities have picked up a bit. When interacting with students in the classroom, reflecting on their behaviors and in class work habits, ---How much sleep are they getting?--- is VERY often one of the first questions we ask. If you have not looked at the required hours for each age group or just need some general tips and trick to help with nightly routines I have included them here. If only I could achieve the recommended hours as an adult!
As Mrs. Maus also pointed out, the number of young patients now being seen within their practice has increased exponentially since the dawn of Covid. If your child is struggling with sleep due to stress or anxiety, or struggling with stress and / or anxiety in general PLEASE let us know. In addition, to Ms. Ambrose, our school counselor, there are a number of great resources and outside counselors we would be happy to recommend and share with you. It is so much easier to grow and learn together when our hearts and minds are settled.
Blessings,
Dr. Voelkl

A note from Fr. Dotson:
Our school is blessed with a wonderful faculty and staff that do so much for the sake of our children.
This year, they are facing even more challenges than usual. As a school family, one of the best ways that we can support them is by prayer. We are asking every school family to choose one day during the school year in which they will pray for our faculty and staff in a very particular and intentional way.
The goal is to have every school day covered between now and the end of the school year, so that our faculty and staff know that they are covered by our prayers every day as they serve our children. To help with this, we have created a Signup Genius here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B44A4AB2FA1FB6-school Each family is asked to sign up for at least one date. There can be more than one family on a date. Please help us with our goal of having every day filled. Our faculty and staff do so much, and this is a beautiful way for us to support them and show them our thanks.
In Christ,
Fr. William Dotson
Virtual Learning When Your Child is Home
I WILL BE SHARING UPDATES TO THIS SECTION IN A SEPARATE EMAIL! We may have a few parents who "skim" the newsletter on occasion and we WANT TO make sure everyone receives necessary updates.....
1. Your child may be able to join in class but depending on what materials they brought home with them may not be able to complete all of the work.
2. The links to participate in their classes can be found in their google classrooms. Students in higher grade levels i.e. 5th grade and up will be able to "join" in with a greater level of independence than some of our younger kiddos. In other words, most should know where to go and what to do :-)
3. Teachers are always happy and eager to help but may not be able to respond to an email first thing in the morning to walk through the process as they are preparing to start their school day. We may be able to help facilitate this process from the office but cannot guarantee we will be able to do so as soon as class starts.
4. As we have continued to move through this hybrid/virtual model we continue to LEARN and GROW more and more each day. As I have told our teachers I think we might be pretty amazing at this by next year. In other words, we are all continuing to research, practice, make new mistakes, collaborate, learn and share. These practices will lead to tremendous growth but never perfection.
5. If your child does log in and participate in class they are marked as Virtually Learning for that day and NOT marked simply as absent. If they are capable and able PLEASE have them join in.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATIENCE! If you are a "true" virtual family I will be sending a google form link shortly to help all of us continue to reflect on our practices.
