District 103
School Board Highlights
January 16, 2024
School Board Meeting Dates
The Board reviewed its meeting schedule for the 2024-2025 school year. Meetings include regular agenda meetings and committee of the whole meetings in which items may be discussed more in-depth.
Policy Approval
The Board approved a number of policies following recent changes in the law.
Community Peers Update
The Student Services Department surveyed current families with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and families interested in enrolling their preschooler in the district’s extended day option for the community peer program. Community peers are students who are enrolled in the district’s early childhood program alongside students with IEPs.
The high family interest in the extended day option is allowing the department to consider offering three extended day early childhood classrooms and one blended half day classroom (AM and PM sections) for the 2024-2025 school year. The extended day program would run from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day. The next step is for parents to register starting January 19.
Audit Review
The finalized Fiscal Year 2023 Audit was presented to the Board by Patrick Palbicke, Assistant Superintendent for Business. Mr. Palbicke informed the Board that it was considered a very clean audit from the auditors. The Board approved the corresponding Annual Financial Report, which will be posted on the district website.
Boiler Replacement
The Board approved the low bid of PremiStar North from Roselle, in the amount of
$269,895.00 for a boiler replacement at Daniel Wright.
Weather Impact on Learning
The Board discussed the impact of the recent weather conditions on learning. Members suggested instituting remote learning options going forward. Administration will review the 2023-2024 school calendar to determine where to make up the inclement weather day that was used on Tuesday, January 16. Dr. Scott Warren, Superintendent, will share more on the calendar changes and remote learning at the next board meeting.

The next Board of Education meeting will occur at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13. The notice and agenda can be found on the District 103 Board meeting website page.
