(NEW) 3rd ANNUAL STUFF THE BUS IS BACK!
In continuing with our school theme this year to 'Respect Others, Own Your Action, Act Safely, and Rise to the Challenge ', WES is proud to bring back to Walkerton Elementary the Third Annual 'Stuff the Bus' food drive!
Stuff the Bus is an amazing opportunity for our students to once again give back to our community!
During the week of November 13-17, we are asking our students to bring to school non-perishable food items. A list of which you can find HERE.
Similar to this week, classrooms will compete to see which room can bring in the most non-perishable food items!
Students from the winning class will receive (1) Their very own 'Stuff the Bus' t-shirt, exclusive to the winning class, (2) A pizza party with Mr. Stauffer and Dr. Fuller, and (3) That class will actually help STUFF A JOHN GLENN BUS filled with food!
We will then take this bus to our local food pantry, and all of the food we raise will go to our local familiar in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
THANK YOU again for joining us in teaching our kids the importance of giving back to their community!

Now through November 3rd, WES will be collecting gently used winter coats that we can clean and then donate to those in need.

(Reminder) Leaves are Falling, and It is Getting Cold!
Fall came full force this week, as we saw the temperature drop to 39 degrees at 7:45 in the morning!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Dr. Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.

Construction at WES!
You may have heard that WES is going to have some construction happening this year, and that is indeed correct!
WES is looking to improve various areas of our building, starting with new heating and cooling systems in our classrooms! Construction will not happen before the first day of school, but will happen throughout the upcoming school year.
But don't worry! Classrooms will be moved around so that there will be no students or staff in classrooms where work is being done.
JGSC is finalizing the construction bidding process, and once that happens, I will be able to provide more details on (1) when construction will start and (2) what rooms will be affected during certain times.
More details coming soon!

Dr. Fuller's Thoughts!
You need to make a plan.
One of my dads favorites phrases...I feel as if he would say this to me and my siblings all the time.
I can recall numerous times talking with dad, asking for advice, and more often than not, his response back would be: Son, you need to make a plan.
I've taken his words to heart: I feel like I do my best to plan for a lot of different situations...but of course there are always those moments in life that happen where you have no plan and no idea what to do.
I had a conversation with a friend earlier this week, and my dad's advice was passed down from me to him.
You need to make a plan I told him.
You see, my dad taught me that there are two absolutes:
1) YOU have a choice. You either let your circumstances control your attitude OR you let your attitude control your circumstances.
2) A bad attitude comes from not being prepared. It's hard to have the wrong attitude when you know you've put in the hard work and preparation.
A lot of my conversations with students revolve around those two lessons.
Both are difficult concepts to master, but both hold such value in how we approach our EFFORT and ATTITUDE.
I talk with our students a lot about EFFORT and ATTITUDE...both so important for all of us to understand and master :)
