Lead Learner Update
December 1, 2023
Good Day Family (Us),
Dr. Fred Williams Named State Superintendent of the Year
Dublin City Schools’ Lead Learner, Dr. Fred Williams, has been named the 2024 Georiga Superintendent of the Year. Sponsored by the Georgia School Superintendents Association, this distinction recognizes district leaders across the state who are making a positive difference in the lives of the students they serve. The announcement was made during today’s Georgia School Boards Association/Georgia School Superintendents Association Winter Conference.
Each year, school board members, Regional Education Service Agencies, business organizations, and education professionals nominate leaders for Superintendent of the Year. Following a rigorous process, a committee of former award winners and education administrators selects a winner.
As Georgia Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Williams will now compete for National Superintendent of the Year. The School Superintendents Association will award the title in February 2024 at their annual conference in San Diego, California.
Dr. Williams said the recognition belongs to the thousands of students, staff members and families that make up the Fighting Irish Family.
“This high honor is extremely humbling yet exciting,” said Dr. Williams. “I am so proud of how this recognition speaks to the work of the internal and external stakeholders of Dublin City Schools. Thank you so much for all you do!!! I love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Dr. Williams has been Dublin City Schools’ superintendent since 2015.

Dublin City Board of Education Earns Exemplary Board Status for Eighth Consecutive Year
Dublin City Schools is proud to announce the achievement and status of the Georgia School Boards Association’s (GSBA) 2023 Exemplary School Board recognition. The announcement was made during today’s Georgia School Boards Association/Georgia School Superintendents Association Winter Conference.
Dublin City Schools has earned this distinction every year of its existence, dating back to 2015. This is the eighth consecutive award for Dublin City Schools, as no award was given by GSBA in 2017.
“This award is a reflection of the true work being done by our Board of Education in support of all we do in the classrooms for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Fred Williams. “The collaboration from our board, and their commitment to using our flexibility as a charter system to its fullest is translating into increased enrollment, a rise in achievement across the district, and the highest graduation rate in our history.”
The recognition program is designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership. GSBA recognizes good school board governance to foster educational community cultures in order to advance student learning and achievement.
The Dublin City Schools met and/or exceeded the criteria set forth by GSBA to earn the honor of a 2023 Exemplary Board. The criteria may be reviewed by clicking here for more information.
The GSBA Governance Team Recognition Program was developed by Georgia superintendents and board members based on the state board of education’s standards for effective governance to recognize exemplary leadership.
In 1998, the Georgia School Boards Association was one of the first school board associations in the nation to develop a program of standards for local boards of education.
The GSBA Board recognition program is a three-tiered program. For more information on the program you may visit the GSBA website for awards and recognition or to view the criteria for all tiers of the program.
