Why Poppy Flowers?
Poppy Flowers are a symbol of Remembrance, Sacrifice, Death, and Peace.
The association of poppies with remembrance and sacrifice can be traced back to the famous World War I poem, "In Flanders Fields," written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. The poem describes how poppies grew among the graves of soldiers in Flanders, a region in Belgium heavily impacted by the war.
Since then, the red poppy has been adopted as a symbol of remembrance in various countries around the world, particularly during occasions such as Remembrance Day (also known as Armistice Day or Veterans Day). The vibrant red color of the poppy serves as a powerful reminder of the bloodshed and sacrifices made by soldiers, while also representing hope for a peaceful future.
By wearing or displaying poppy flowers, people show their respect and appreciation for the bravery and selflessness of those who have served and continue to serve in the military. Additionally, poppies serve as a reminder of the importance of remembering and learning from the horrors of war, in the hopes of preventing future conflicts.
