Mustang News - March 10th, 2023
From The Principal
Throughout this week, I have had the opportunity to be in many classrooms witnessing deep learning and relationships. For example, Student Council students worked through their own Emergenetics profiles and how these impact their collaboration. Similarly, I met with a senior to learn about her proposal for a sculpture that combines her learning in Calculus and Physics with her artistic creativity and Manitou pride! We are also sending our Robotics Team good luck as they compete in a national tournament in Oklahoma: go Steel Stangs! Looking to next week, we are looking forward to our Hunger Week, which is being led by Key Club! In order to raise money and awareness for local charities dedicated to providing food for children, Key Club will be hosting a variety of dress up days, community service events, and fundraisers. Additionally, we are excited to launch Mustang Strong Day on Wednesday, 3/15 (Late Start: school starts at 10:05 am). Instead of normal classes, students will check in with their Advisory teachers, attend a whole school assembly, then attend four different blocks of their choice rooted in wellness activities: physical wellness, mental and emotional wellness, life skills, and choice. A huge thank you to our Wellness Team led by Lawrence Housley and Jen Trainor in addition to our Student Council for planning the event! If you have additional questions, please reach out to the MSHS Front Office: 719-685-2074. Have a wonderful weekend! Anna Conrad Manitou Springs High School Interim Principal
Wish Week Success!
Student Council members worked really hard for two weeks straight during the month of February to fundraise money to support Make-A-Wish Colorado and their mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
The Student Council had a lot of fun creating different fundraising activities and teaming up with Dutch Bro's and Raising Cane's to raise as much money as possible for Asher (our Wish kid) and kids like him.
Congratulations Manni Award Nominees!

From The Athletic Trainer...
This is the second week of National Athletic Training Month, and the following information provides an insight into the education that makes these health care providers multidisciplinary in their approach to the well-being of athletes. Athletic Trainers are educated and trained in five major practice domains.
1: Injury & Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion
Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors with effective education and communication to enhance wellness and minimize the risk of injury and illness. Most athletic trainers are strength and conditioning certified, have certifications in nutrition and stress management, and work with athletes to manage proper sleep and hydration.
2: Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis
Implementing systematic, evidence-based examinations and assessments to formulate valid clinical diagnoses and determine patients' plan of care. We continue our education every year to stay on top of what research is saying is the best practice. As the athlete evolves, so does our profession. Fun Fact: Athletic trainers and medical doctors make the same correct diagnosis 92% of the time.
3: Immediate & Emergency Care
Integrating best practices in immediate and emergency care for optimal outcomes. Athletic trainers are CPR/ AED/ First Aid certified. Most of the time they are the first on the scene and the decisions they make can save a life, or help an athlete recovery from an injury much faster.
4: Therapeutic Intervention
Rehabilitating and reconditioning injuries, illnesses and general medical conditions with the goal of achieving optimal activity level based on core concepts (i.e., knowledge and skillsets fundamental to all aspects of therapeutic interventions) using the applications of therapeutic exercise, modality devices and manual techniques. We take athletes throughout the entire healing process from the moment they are injured to the point they can return to sport.
5: Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility
Integrating best practices in policy construction and implementation, documentation and basic business practices to promote optimal patient care and employee well-being. Policies and procedures are put into place to ensure the best care possible for athletes. From The Music Department...
