Findley Elementary School
February 12, 2021
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Families,
As I am sure you are aware, the deadline for your selection, either remain in CDL or transition to Hybrid is due Monday, February 15, President’s Day holiday. You can find directions for doing so on our Return to School Website (linked below). Your timely selection is critical to the next steps in our process of staffing for both CDL and Hybrid. Please be sure to take a few moments this weekend to make your selection.
If you haven’t viewed the BSD return to school elementary Q&A, I encourage you to do so. Panelists asked some good questions, that you too may have. The video is linked here:
Return to School Elementary Q&A
Also, last Monday I answered several questions at our general PTO meeting. If you would like to view a recording of this meeting, please reach out to me directly.
There were some questions regarding how a positive case of COVID would be handled and our ventilation system. The Return to School Website now contains a summary of HVAC Modifications and Operations and a Safety and Communication Guidance which include the measures that will be implemented for safety and protocol for handling a positive case of COVID. Please take a moment to review these helpful documents if you still have questions about anything HVAC or COVID protocol related.
I hope everyone is enjoying our winter wonderland. Have a safe, long weekend.
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
FIndley Elementary
NOTE FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
The district is asking us to help remind families that there are still Device fees to be collected for the 20/21 school year. This was an option at verification that many families chose to cover any damage to the iPad or chrome book that has been borrowed by you.
Findley alone has $600.00 in Chrome book fees left to be paid with an additional $529.38 in library lost book fees that have not been collected. Please log in and make sure that these fees have been paid for your student(s).
Parents if you are not sure how to do this, please follow these steps.
a. Beaverton School District Website
b. Families > Apps for parents/Guardians > Online Payment System Login
c. Chose Students name
d. Click on Red View button above Shop (If there is No Red Button, there are NO fines)
This will give you a breakdown of the fees & fines that are due. Fines for Library Books which you plan to return will be removed when the book is checked back in.
**If you would rather pay by cash or check, please bring exact change to the office and we will credit that payment for you. Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm**
State Testing = PLEASE READ
Under the Student Assessment Bill of Rights, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon’s school districts must provide families with a Notice of Statewide Tests and Opt-out Form 30 days before the start of statewide testing.
This year, school has been significantly disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In response, ODE plans to ask the United States Department of Education for a temporary pause (also known as a “waiver”) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math testing. A pause is also being requested for science testing, but science testing is not subject to this opt-out rule.
- If this waiver request is approved, then statewide ELA and Math testing will not happen this year, and there will be no need for parents to submit opt-out forms to their child’s school.
- If the waiver request is not approved, test windows will open on March 4, 2021.
ODE will update the district regularly with news about the waiver. In the meantime, if you wish to have your child opt-out of statewide testing, please use the form above and submit to our school office.

Passport Club
Dear Findley Passport Club members,
Let’s continue the fun with the virtual Passport Club at Findley!
We are now moving our way into the December countries, but it is still NOT too late to do November, September and/or October as well!
Here is a summary of the steps to get in on the fun with more detailed instructions below:
1. Download this month's maps (We are moving to December this month)
2. Visit this month's virtual classroom
3. Learn this month's maps
4. Take the quiz when you are ready
This is a whole new experience and we understand that there will be a lot of questions, learnings and changes as we navigate this new virtual Passport Club.
Please rest assured that we are dedicated to making this the best that we can under the circumstances and ask for your patience and understanding as we all go through this process together.
With that being said, let's have some fun and travel the world together!
In addition, here is a reminder in regards to Passport Club:
Passport Club is a volunteer-run geography enrichment program offered at Findley to 2nd – 5th grades. This is an optional program and is not mandatory.
· Please practice with your child for several minutes a day to help them get ready!
Grade Level Clarification:
· 2nd-4th grade students have the option of 5 levels of study to choose from. However, students are encouraged to learn all the items in each level up to grade level.
