EMS Weekly Update

We want to celebrate our students who had perfect attendance or earned Highest Honor Roll or Honor Roll for the 1st marking period at EMS. We had 205 students (24% of our students) with perfect attendance for the 1st marking period. We had 94 students (11% of our students) who earned Highest Honor Roll, which is a 4.0 GPA. We had 356 students (42% of our students) who made the Honor Roll. Way to go, EMS! These students will be getting a certificate and a breakfast treat this week!

Congratulations to Mr. Johnson, our October Staff Member of the Month! Mr. Johnson is one of our Unified Arts teachers, with a focus on Band and General Music. In one of his nominations, a student said, "He is my favorite teacher and is really fun. I look forward to going to his classes every day."

Monday, November 6th, will be a B DAY.

First Marking Period Report cards will be available online in HAC on Tuesday, November 7th. All SMCPS Schools and Offices will be closed on Friday, November 10th, in observance of Veteran's Day.

Based on Maryland State Law, the school nurses perform vision and hearing screenings on students new to SMCPS and 8th-grade students each year. The nurses will begin screening students on Monday, November 6th. If your student wears glasses or contact lenses, please remind them to bring/wear them to school. Our schools are heavily impacted by federally connected students – those parents/guardians who work on federal property in Maryland, live on federal property in Maryland, and/or are active duty military personnel. Because of this impact, we receive federal grant funds to operate and maintain our schools and enrich school programs. To receive these funds, the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) requires us to survey each student to determine eligibility.

SMCPS is encouraging all parents/guardians to please take the time to access and complete the Impact Aid Survey Form online, located in the Home Access Center (HAC). Once logged in, directions to access the online form can be found HERE. A video with instructions is available HERE. Once the form has been started, the form can now be accessed in Spanish by clicking on the Globe in the top right-hand corner. The deadline for the online submission of Impact Aid Program Survey forms is November 14, 2023.

Effective communication is critical to the success of St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS). This will be crucial for emergencies and our ability to communicate with families in general. Online Emergency Information Update Forms are now available through the student’s Home Access Center (HAC). Once logged in, directions to access the online form can be found HERE. A video with instructions is available HERE. It is vital that all information is updated in eSchool. The deadline for the online submission of Emergency Information Update forms is November 14, 2023. The PTO will hold a General Membership meeting on Monday, November 6, at 6 p.m. in the Media Center at Esperanza. We will discuss upcoming fundraising efforts, the needs of the PTO, and planning PTO giveback events for the school year. We hope to see anyone anyone interested!
