Oakview Earns State Recognition
Congratulations to Oakview Elementary School on receiving the “Rising Star” Award by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The award is given in recognition of our efforts in the areas of recycling and composting. Did you know that Oakview composts food waste from daily lunch trays which is then used in many of our outdoor habitats? Great job, Oakview Owls!!
Oakview Receives Over $12,000 in Grant Funding
Congratulations to Oakview faculty who have received grant funding to support arts integration at various grade levels. For example, second grade students will be integrating sculpture into an upcoming science unit on animals by making totem poles from clay and then firing them in the school’s kiln. Third grade students will be expanding their Native American studies through the integration of drama and theater arts. Thank you teachers for the creative ways you engage students in learning each day!
Yearbook Orders
Yearbook sales begin soon and all yearbooks will be in FULL COLOR this year! The cost will be $27. Order forms will go home on Monday, September 19. Oakview will only order a few extras for students who join our school after the pre-order deadline on December 14. Please order your yearbook using the order form if you plan to purchase a 2016-2017 yearbook.
Free Breakfast for GCS Students!
We are pleased to announce that all Greenville County Schools locations will now offer FREE breakfast to ALL students, regardless of an individual's free and reduced lunch status. Breakfast will be served at Oakview from 7:15am to 7:50am daily. The free breakfast program provides one free meal per student. If a second meal is requested, a charge will be incurred.
Reading Tutors Needed!
Change the life of a child forever by serving as a Reading Tutor! You do not have to be a teacher to tutor a child. You become a tutor when you become a parent. If you want to make a real difference, please sign up to be a Reading Tutor. All training and materials will be provided. Training will be held on October 7, 9:00- 10:30am in the Virtual Field Trip room. Questions? Please email Becky Riddle at briddle@greenville.k12.sc.us
Parent Portal Access
Are you interested in having online access to your child's progress? Parents of children attending Greenville County Schools have access to a Parent Portal that will help keep them better informed about their children’s academic performance, attendance, and much more. Parents must have an access ID and password to obtain their children’s school information. Please click here to find out more. https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/oakview/Upload/uploads/1617ParentPortalHandout.pdf

PTA President's Report - Mandi Morin
Welcome back Oakview families! It is hard to believe how quickly the first few weeks of school have flown by. The PTA has been hard at work processing all of the forms that you completed and are thrilled with the response! It was wonderful to see all of the new faces at the Volunteer Breakfast. We look forward to a great year where we can work together with the students and teachers to be "#OWLIN" at Oakview Elementary.
