Peterborough Elementary School
October 13, 2023
Dear Families and Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
This week is Fire Prevention Week and today the Peterborough Fire and Rescue Department spent time on campus and with our students. Fighfighters arrived during our All-School Meeting with a couple of fire trucks and some other fire and rescue apparatus, as well as some good safety tips and information. Throughout the day, every student had the chance to learn hear some safety tips, ask questions , and check out the equipment. If you know any Peterborough firefighters, please say thank you to them (for their visit and their service). For more information about fire safety, stop by the fire station on Saturday; they are hosting an open house from 10:00-2:00.
Thank you goes out to the school district's School Resource Officer Justin Hyland as well. Officer Hyland visited PES on Wednesday, and went into most classrooms to say hello to our students. Office Hylan primarily works at the high school, but it was really great for our students to get the chance to see and meet him. Thanks Officer Hyland, CVHS, and the Peteborough Police Department for making this happen.
It is always great when our first responders and community helpers visit our school and introduce themselves, and talk about what they do.
Have a great weekend,
Larry Pimental
Happy Birthday!
Each Friday, at our All-School Meeting, we celebrate student birthdays with cards, birthday pencils, and we sing our birthday song. This week we also got to celebrate our four-legged favorite, Charlie who turned one on Wednesday. Charlie was in school on Wednesday, got treated to some doggie-birthday cake, and then he was back in school for the much of the day today.
Family Engagement
On Monday afterschool we will be hosting a Family Engagement Leadership Team (FELT) meeting in the library starting at 3:45. If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP to me at lpimental@conval.edu.
Read for the Record
On Thursday, October 26, the whole school will be participating in an early literacy initiative called “Read for the Record.” This is a global shared read-aloud experience with a book called, “With Lots of Love.” Last year 2.1 million children participated across the globe. Classes are looking for family members to come in and read the story aloud and assist with a related activity with a multi-age group that morning from 9-10. If you are interested, pleas contact your child's teacher. You can view the book and learn more at Read for the Record.
Halloween Parade
We are planning a costume parade through downtown Peterborough on Halloween leaving PES around 1:45. Students should come to school in their normal school clothes. There will be time to change into their costumes before the parade, and costumes should be easy for children to put on (please no make up or anything that requires extra ordinary assistance). Because this is a school event, costumes accessories like toy weapons, bats, batons, light sabers, etc. and anything gory should remain at home. Also, some masks can make walking difficult and even dangerous, so please consider leaving those at home as well. If you prefer to not have your child march, please let me know. We will have staff and activities at school for those who remain on campus. As we get closer, more details will be provided. If your child is in need of a costume, please give me a call. I may be able to help. If you have extra costumes that you no longer need, we will take them.
Title I Feedback
We appreciated your attendance at the Title I Annual Meeting for Families that was presented prior to our Open House on September 28th. Our discussion together was invaluable and important for making decisions together to offer programs, training and/or resources that support our children and families for learning at home and school.
If you did not have the opportunity to join us at the meeting, we look forward to receiving your feedback through this survey (and future meetings) so that we can plan how to meet your needs and make this a meaningful school year together!
We are requesting this Fall Survey be completed by October 13th. Thank you for your time!
