The Weekly Buzz
September 22, 2022
This Week 📚
Here's what we focused on this week.
Reading: This week in reading, we read memory stories. These stories focus on an important moment from the writer's life. These moments have a special significance to the writer.
Writing: This week, we worked on writing our own memory stories. We worked on brainstorming by making webs and sketches. We also planned out our stories to make sure we told them in the right order. We will continue working on our memory stories next week!
Math: This week in math we learned about bar graphs and picture graphs. These are two ways to show data. On a picture graph, each picture or symbol represents 1 piece of information. On a bar graph, the height of the bars shows the data. We practiced reading and making graphs this week. Then, we surveyed the class to collect our own data.
Social Studies: This week, we learned about different types of communities. There are three types of communities: urban, suburban, and rural. We learned what makes each of these communities different.
Mrs. Toth came in this week and read the book The Energy Bus for Kids by Jon Gordon. This book has a powerful message about being positive and overcoming challenges.

📌 Reminders
Nightly Homework
Each night your child should read for at least 10 minutes and practice math facts for at least 5 minutes. A great way to practice math facts is using XtraMath.
In second grade, we work on mastering our basic addition and subtraction facts from 0-18 so they become automatic. Practicing facts for a few minutes every night will help us reach this goal! If you need flashcards, here are some that you can print and use at home.
Dismissal
Remember to use the PikMyKid app/website for any dismissal changes. I will be checking this each afternoon as verification for how each child will go home. Please make all changes before 2:45 PM.
