Landlord-Tenant Cash Workshops-CANCELLED

The Landlord-Tenant Cash Workshop scheduled for January 15 has been cancelled. There are some online options available for anyone that is interested. For a schedule of virtual options and to register, visit www.farm.unl.edu-look for the landlord/tenant workshop news release.

The 2020 Tax Guides are now available at the Extension Office. Feel free to stop by the office and pick one up.

2021 Pesticide Trainings

Check the date on your Commercial Pesticide License, if it expires in 2021, attend a class to avoid re-testing. Beatrice classes are January 28, February 4, February 16, March 9, and March 18. Register now at pested.unl.edu to get a spot in the smaller classes. For new applicators, the Beatrice class is March 16.

Avoid Traffic on a Frozen Turf

As I walk around my yard with my dog, through the snow, I wonder about the impacts it has on my turf for the spring. Walking on frozen turf can have detrimental effects.

Planning a Garden

In December, you might not think much about your garden due to the colder temperatures and snow, that is falling as I write this article. However, this is a great time to start planning a new garden. You can figure out the best location and plan out what you are going to plant in it now while new plant ideas are flying in from all the garden catalogs.

4-H Enrollment Now Open

Enrollment is open for 2021 Gage County 4-H. All 4-H youth (ages 8-18), Clover Kids (ages 5-7), and leaders/volunteers are required to enroll online every year. Enrollment deadline is June 15. We encourage all members to enroll using a computer and not your mobile device. This site is not mobile friendly and can cause some issues when it comes time to pay your dues online. Enrollment instructions for new members can be found at the Extension Office or online at gage.unl.edu. Call Jacie at 402-223-1384 with any enrollment questions.


$12 dues must be paid online at conclusion of enrollment process. **No enrollment fee for Clover Kids. See below for special enrollment instructions for Clover Kids.


Projects will continue to be cleared from 4HOnline annually. Project history per members can be found under Member Reports in your family account. Call the Extension Office if you have questions.

It’s true, all foods fit


With a lot of folks turning their attention to new year’s resolutions, I thought I’d revisit the concepts of “all foods fit” and “everything in moderation”—every dietitian’s favorite things to say.


While both are true, these three-word phrases can be vague and unhelpful, so let me elaborate.
