Dr. Vee's Students Explore Stream Ecosystem
Dr. Vee's students explore the stream ecosystem here at DFHS. For all but one student, this was the first time in waders. "I'm very proud of my students," says Dr. Vee." After the initial intimidation, especially when identifying animal tracks, and walking in the stream per se, the students caught on and soon "I could barely keep up" says Dr. Vee. The introductory mission was completed and now it's time to go further into detail with ecosystems.
Mrs. Chason's AP/Honors Art Students
Mrs. Chason's AP / Honors students are working hard on their tall charcoal portraits. We are exploring the use of materials before beginning our concentrations for the year. This study creates a sense of Impact and Visual drama as we play with large scale, proportion and creative use of embellishments to enhance the mood in our work. These portraits allow the viewer to see UP CLOSE and allow students to embrace the blemish, texture and beauty of their individual selves.

DF makes AP School Honor Roll
Congratulations to Dutch Fork High School which was named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening access for students.
Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Dutch Fork High School had 85.2% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam.
Dutch Fork High School offers 25 different AP courses.
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond. Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them, and research indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.

PSAT / SAT Prep Sessions
Did you know that the PSAT on Oct. 11 and the SAT (starting in March) will be a new digital format? Let us help you prepare. DFHS offers free sessions, and no sign-up is needed. A complete calendar of session dates is included below.
On Monday, Oct. 9 students can attend a math session in Room 351 from 3:45 - 4:30. The new digital format of the SAT / PSAT will have an embedded Desmos calculator available for each math question. We will focus on several specific examples of how to use that online calculator to help students maximize their score.
On Wednesday, Oct. 11 students can attend an English session in Room 340 from 3:45 - 4:30. This time will focus on the writing and language portion and students can practice and discuss strategies for questions related to revising and editing.
We hope to see everyone there!
Application deadline has been extended to 10/11/23. Click here to apply now. Email Mrs. Twining ltwining@lexrich5.org with any questions
Attendance Reminder for Students and Parents
One of the most important things a student can do to be successful is to regularly attend school. We understand that there are life events that require students to miss time, and this message is intended to provide you with the information you need to understand attendance requirements and procedures. If you have further questions about your student’s attendance, please reach out to their administrator.
Attendance Requirements/Procedures:
Students are allowed a maximum of 5 absences for a semester class and 10 absences for a year-long class. Students exceeding these attendance requirements will be responsible for seat time makeup.
If you have exceeded these absences for a course, whether it is due to a lawful or unlawful absence, you will be required to make up seat time to receive high school credit for the course.
A student is considered truant after they miss 3 full-day consecutive unlawful absences/unexcused days and/or misses a total of 5 or more full-day unexcused absences.
To avoid truancy, please submit excuses within 3 days of a student's absence. Excuses may be submitted in person, through email, or through our form on the school’s website.
Communication is key! If your student is unable to attend school or you have an anticipated absence, communicate with their teachers and other staff as needed.
A student experiencing absences due to a medical reason may be eligible for homebound instruction if it is a chronic condition or may remove them from the school for an extended period of time. Please speak with a medical professional and/or the school to determine if they may be eligible.
