Paul Banks Newsletter
November 2022
A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Paul Banks Families,
With the beginning of November upon us, it appears that the bite of winter has brought cold, crisp days and soon enough the snow will fall. It’s time to trade in our rain gear for winter gear-remember those jackets, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots. October was an awesome month at Paul Banks. I feel so lucky everyday to spend my days with kids so eager and prepared to learn and with a staff so dedicated to our kids. Regardless of the classroom I visit, I see such awesome stuff happening: pre-schoolers learning their letters and painting pumpkins, kindergarteners beginning to take the leap into reading and making fall inspired art projects, first graders engaging in Socratic seminars and writing about monsters, second graders studying rocks and building bridges. And the list goes on.
I also see parents and family members returning to our building. Just the other day, Katy shared with me that we had a volunteer in every classroom. This was such wonderful news. One morning last week, Ms. Reinhart encouraged me to go check out her students studying the stars through a telescope with a parent volunteer. Our staff so appreciates the support volunteers provide. We welcome others who would like to volunteer (complete the volunteer application here) or those who just want to drop in for lunch with their child.
As I have mentioned since our doors opened, teaching students to read is at the core of what we hope to provide for your children. You will see below another family reading list, curated by our public library’s children’s librarian. In the coming days, look out for our PTA’s free library. This is a resource for families to share books: take a book today and leave a book tomorrow is the concept, all in the spirit of immersing our kids in books at school and at home.
Moving into November, it is a time to reflect on what we are thankful for, and every day I feel fortunate to serve as Paul Banks Elementary School’s Principal. As always, if you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out.
All the best,
Sean Campbell
