Frog Pond Elementary
Volume 1 23-24
Hello Frog Pond Family!
We are off to a great start this school year!
September has come and gone quickly, and our first month of school has been filled with events and positive vibes all around! We started the year with grade level assemblies to review our expectations. We also welcomed all parents to a successful Back to School Night!
Coming up this month, October is always busy here at Frog Pond. School will be closed for students only on October 9th. There are several initiatives we will be celebrating this month! They are the National Week of Respect, Fire Prevention Week, and Red Ribbon Week. In addition, school picture day will be October 16th, and fall parties will be held on October 30th (5th & 6th grade) and the 31st (3rd & 4th grade). Students are allowed to bring their costumes to school for their class parties, but there is no parade at Frog Pond Elementary School. The Scholastic Book Fair will be held from 9/29 to 10/6, with a Family Night on Thursday, October 5th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm.
Thank you to all of the parents, students and staff for making this a great start to the 2023-24 school year!

News from the P.E. Dept
Ms. English and Mr. Vliet were presented with a certificate today from the American Heart Association and the Kids Heart Challenge for raising $27,337 dollars last year which placed the Frog Pond School at #5 top fundraising school in Ocean County and #14 in the state out of over 700 schools. WAY TO GO FROG POND. Our students are awesome and we can’t wait to see what you can do this year.
Mrs.Costello and Mrs. Randall's STEAM Class
The STEAM Lab in both Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Randall's room have come alive again with the start of the school year. We celebrated International Dot Day after reading the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This story encourages creativity, courage, and collaboration. In third grade the students used the Quiver App to bring their dots to life using augmentative reality. The fourth grade used watercolors to create their own Dot Art. The fifth graders made dots on filter paper and separated the colors in a chromatography lab. Lastly, the sixth graders made a pom pom popper competing for the farthest pom pom launch.
Students listened to the story,”The Dot” and proceeded to create their own dot design. We made a collaborative mural outside the multipurpose room!

Mr. Page’s Art Class
We have begun a new year and with that came the review of our five fundamentals:
Respect Responsibility Knowledge Potential Creativity
Please take a moment to look on your students' Google Classroom for a slide show about these important words as they apply to art class.
We have begun our first project which is also our Display My Art Fundraiser. Please keep your eye out for more information. In the meantime, you can get in on the action and be creative while helping to raise money for the art department and our end of year Arts & Sciences Celebration. Here’s how…
Dear Frog Pond Elementary School families,
Display My Art, an art based fundraiser, will be working with our school to reproduce your child’s art onto a wide variety of keepsakes, perfect for gift giving! This educational fundraiser will not only help our school raise money but more importantly, have a positive impact on our students’ overall self esteem. The custom brochure featuring the artwork your child created in school will be sent home soon.
If your friends or family would like to participate and create their own custom keepsakes, see the online designer information below.

Making Our Schools More Inclusive
The LEH Speech Department has been working hard to get AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) Device Core Board Banners made for our schools. This has been a goal to help make our schools more inclusive for our AAC device users and educate our students as a whole on what AAC devices are and how they can be used. If you see them around please stop and take a moment to look at them, practice producing a word/phrase, and explain to your students/children how everyone communicates in different ways and deserves a voice.
Thank you,
The LEH Speech Department
Kawka/Stricchiola and Gunn/Rogers are excited to be back to school!
Learning about Terrapins
On October 2nd, several FPE and GJM teachers met with Ben Wurst to gather the hatchling Diamondback Terrapins. We brought 35 to the Pond, to be fostered until strong enough to be released back into their natural environment. Keep an eye out for updates every month on how our turtles are growing, and how they are helping our students grow!
Thank you Troop 080
Thank you to Troop 080 for painting a fun game of Rock-Paper-Scissors Hula Hoops on our blacktop for students to play at recess.
