A message from the principal
Our number one goal is to keep students safe, please help us by not dropping students off at parent drop until 9:10 am as we do not have supervision for students until that time.
We are in the process of coming up with a plan to allow parents to have lunch with their students. Due to capacity, we will have a sign up process through Sign-Up Genius. More information will come home October 19 in the Wednesday communication folder.
School highlights
Anoka High School students came to Brookside to celebrate homecoming Friday, September 23. The students and staff enjoyed seeing the royalty, marching band, and cheerleaders.
Child nutrition update
Media center news
The Scholastic Book Fair will be here October 3-11. Students will be able to shop at the book fair during their scheduled media time this week. *This is the only time students will be able to purchase items from the book fair during the school day. Please consider signing up for the e-Wallet instead of sending cash to school with your child. Additionally, the book fair will be open during conferences (Oct. 3, 6, and 11) from 4:20-8:00pm. We hope to see you there!
Character Strong
We began rolling out our Character Strong social emotional curriculum this fall. Students are receiving daily lessons with an emphasis on conflict resolution, emotion regulation, and executive functioning skills. Below is the family newsletter for each grade level. Please take a peek to see what your child is learning.

Amazon Smile:
Did you know that through your amazon (amazon smile account) you can select Brookside PTO and with every eligible purchase Amazon donates the money back to the PTO?
What do we do with this money? We put the money we earn through the Amazon smile right back into the students hands. This year so far we have purchased 30 mice for computers for testing for students in grades 3-5. We have provided year long magazine subscriptions for 5th grade to use for Science. We also bought the Back to School sign that was in front of the school for the first couple of days of school!
Keep shopping AMAZON SMILE Brookside PTO!
Playground update:
School’s started, but where’s the new playground? As many of you know, there have been existential circumstances over the last year that caused supply chain issues, material cost increases, and labor shortages, just to name a few. The students put forth a tremendous fundraising effort last year, so we want to ensure they get the playground update they deserve. The increased costs and delays forced us to re-evaluate our approach to Phase I. With lead times 6-9 months out, our goal is to have the new equipment installed next summer. We know this isn’t the news you were hoping to hear, but on the brightside we now can make Phase I bigger! All fundraising for the playground has been carried over from last year, and with next month’s APEX Fun Run we can add more to the pot. This means opportunities for larger or more equipment pieces that we did not initially see in our budget. Thank you for your continued support of the Brookside PTO, and we look forward to working alongside you and your students this school year.
Fall Bingo will be happening on November 17: Stay tuned for more information coming in October!

Our next "Dine Out Night" will be on October 11 at Noodles & Co in Coon Rapids- Riverdale from 5-8
Fall Bingo will be happening on November 17th: Stay tuned for more information coming in late October!

Boundary changes: Review proposals, timeline and provide feedback
(09/27/2022) The district has a system in place to ensure students are receiving a high-quality education while maximizing the efficiency of the educational supports, programming and resources. By acting now, the district aims to equitably serve all students for years to come. Watch a three-minute video to get insight into the need for boundary changes, now.
Anoka-Hennepin Schools presented proposed attendance area maps and collected community feedback at a community meeting held Sept. 20 at Anoka High School. Franklin, Lincoln and Ramsey Elementary Schools are the only schools impacted by boundary changes in the Anoka cluster.
A second community meeting for the Anoka cluster of schools will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Anoka High School cafeteria.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The school district is compiling frequently asked questions (FAQs) received from the community and employees related to the process for establishing new attendance boundaries for schools. Visit ahschools.us/boundaryFAQs to review a list of answers and explanations.
Feedback
Attendance boundary feedback is being formally collected at ahschools.us/boundaryfeedback. Families and community members are encouraged to complete the survey to ensure ideas, concerns and input are considered in future planning and discussions. The Anoka-Hennepin School District appreciates and values family and community participation in the boundary change process.
Parents needed for special education advisory council
Join the district’s Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school year. A broad range of parents/guardians are needed, from those representing early childhood, all the way to elementary, middle school, high school, and transition-aged students - with a full continuum of student disabilities.
Those interested in participating in future meetings should complete an application either by completing a Google form, or by contacting Mary Esch at 763-506-1362, or mary.esch@ahschools.us. Parents/guardians who wish to be part of SEAC are asked to make an effort to attend all four meetings as council members. The application process will close October 10. Learn more about SEAC and what it means to be involved.
