Swearing-in of the New and Returning Board Members
The Honorable Rhathelia Stroud, DeKalb County Misdemeanor Mental Health Court and Chief Judge for the City of Decatur, administered the oath of office to newly-elected Board members, Dr. Carmen Sulton and Mr. Hans Utz, and returning Board member, Ms. Jana Johnson-Davis.Following the swearing-in, the newly seated board voted for the offices of chair and vice-chair. Elected to the chair's seat was Ms. Jana Johnson-Davis and the vice-chair’s seat was Mr. James Herndon. This is the first term for both to hold office, and they received unanimous votes from their fellow board members.

Board Spotlight: Oakhurst Elementary School
Oakhurst principal, Tanisha Frazier, and Oakhurst teacher, Shannon Staton, introduced Oakhurst’s new equity initiative, Game Day. Principal Frazier provided information on the inception of the idea and Ms. Staton led the meeting participants in a sample Game Day lesson.

ACTION/DISCUSSION/INFORMATION
Code of Ethics Sign-off for Board Members [FOR ACTION]
Each member of the district board of education shall sign an acknowledgment of receipt of the Code of Ethics for CSD School Board Members. The acknowledgment of receipt requires each district board of education member to read and become familiar with the Code of Ethics. The Board voted unanimously to accept the Code of Ethics.
Superintendent Search [FOR DISCUSSION]
The Board agreed to invite GSBA representative(s) to the next Board work session (January 25) to discuss how GSBA might help in the search for a new superintendent.
The Board welcomes and hopes that Dr. Fehrman will submit her name for consideration.
Updated Charge Policy for School Meals [FOR DISCUSSION]
Dr. Fehrman shared the updated charge policy for school meals, which was developed and maintained by the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Sergio Perez and the School Nutrition Director, Ms. Tiffany Lawrence. It is the intent of the City Schools of Decatur (CSD) Board of Education to provide an opportunity for each child to eat a nutritious breakfast and/or lunch during the school day. It is also the policy of the CSD Board of Education to comply with all federal program regulations pertaining to the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. The School Nutrition Program is set up as an enterprise fund, and the foodservice operation is self-supporting. The program must rely on meal payments and federal/state reimbursements to fund the entire nutrition budget.
Budget Primer Presentation and Calendar [FOR DISCUSSION]
Ms. Lonita Broome, Chief Financial Officer, shared a presentation, Budget Primer, with the community and the Board. As City Schools of Decatur begins the process of developing the FY2023 budget proposal, the Board believes it is important to provide context and narrative to our community that gives insight into why certain budgetary decisions are made. Within the presentation, Ms. Broome provided a brief overview of CSD's current budget and the budget process.
Updated District Wellness Plan [FOR INFORMATION]
The updated District Wellness Plan was shared for information only. The District is committed to fostering holistic growth and development for every student. One of its key initiatives is to improve student success and well-being by creating and fostering a culture of wellness that results in healthy behaviors among students, staff, and the district’s community.
