Congratulations Ashleigh Schiano-Oliver!
Armin Jahr kindergarten teacher is the Honored Teacher Award recipient for November 2022!
Honored is a nonprofit organization that works to elevate the teaching profession by recognizing teachers across the country who are changing student’s lives.
Mrs. Schiano-Oliver was nominated for the award by the family of one of her students.
This is Mrs. Oliver's 10th year teaching at Armin Jahr Elementary. She taught first grade for nine years but moved to kindergarten this year. Fun fact: She started her career as an Armin Jahr Orca when she attended the school starting in fourth grade (and she's taught in that same classroom as a teacher too!) ! Mrs. Oliver is a proud 2008 Bremerton High School graduate.
You may recognize the Schiano name - her mom Alesa also works at Armin Jahr as a clerical assistant and her dad Mike works in technology for the District!

Bremerton School District receives Digital Equity and Inclusion Grant
Bremerton School District was recently awarded a $240,000 Digital Equity and Inclusion Grant from OSPI, funded by HB1365. This grant is intended to support inclusionary learning environments through the targeted implementation of educational technology. The grant will be used to add instructional audio systems to every K-5 classroom in the district.
Instructional audio systems (teacher wearable microphone, student handheld microphone, and speaker) deliver even distribution of sound and higher levels of intelligibility throughout the classroom. It provides an equitable listening environment that benefits all students, from those sitting in the back of the classroom to English-language learners and students with hearing loss or other auditory difficulties. It has been proven to improve student learning and social behaviors, as well as help teachers avoid vocal strain.
BSD's technology and teaching and learning departments are excited to partner on this new project, and are grateful to OSPI for providing the funding to make it happen for our students and staff.
