MUMS Family Newsletter
November 10th, 2023
Dear MUMS community,
Thank you so much to those of you who joined us last week for PT-conferences. It was so nice to have so many caregivers in our school and nice to share all of the amazing things that our students are doing every day!
We celebrated the Fall season on Wednesday during extended TA where each team decorated a classroom on their team with a fall theme! Thanks for all of the creativity and support through the process, it was an awesome way to celebrate the season and our Tiger Pride. Kudos to team 3 for winning Best over all! We are looking forward to more events like this in the coming weeks!
As a reminder, Report cards will be mailed home this year. We expect to put them in the mail on or around November 15th and you should expect them soon after. Please reach out to your child's TA or Megan Curran mcurran@acsdvt.org with any questions.
Lastly, some of you may know this already, but due to the winter weather conditions yesterday, our Picture Re-take day was cancelled. Below you will find details about the new date.
If you have questions generally, please reach out to us at mwisell@acsdvt.org (Michaela)
or zjerome@acsdvt.org (Zach) or dhunt@acsdvt.org (Dustin) or by calling the MUMS office at 802-382-1600 or by visiting the MUMS website for more information.

From our MYP Coordinators
8th graders in Jan Broderson’s Digital Design class were inspired by The New York Times Vocabulary Challenge where students have to create and produce an original video in which they define a Word of the Day in under 15 seconds. Here are some of their videos! This exercise offered a fun way for kids to learn and practice new vocabulary, as well as utilize many Approaches to Learning Skills, including media literacy, communication, collaboration, and creative thinking. Maybe you’ll see an 8th grader you know in one of these 15-second clips and learn a new word while you’re watching!

Community Service Opportunity
During this season of giving and thanks, the Counseling Office is hosting a food drive to benefit the HOPE Food Shelf. Please join us by bringing non-perishable food items to our office anytime between now and Thanksgiving break. Items we’re looking for include:
- canned vegetables, fruit or beans
- pasta and pasta sauce
- ramen
- rice
- boxed mac & cheese
- soup
- cereal and oatmeal
- peanut butter and jelly
- chips
- crackers
- dried fruit.
- anything you can think of that is non-perishable and unopened!
Our goal is for all students to donate at least one item. That would be over 300 items we could donate to help families in need!
Updated Picture Re-Take Date
Last chance to order school pictures from LifeTouch! Picture Retake day has been rescheduled for Monday November 13th. The Picture ID is EVTFRHNBP to order. Use code F202310OFF for 10% off your order. If you have any questions please reach out to Megan at mcurran@acsdvt.org.
Helpful Resources from the Counseling Office
MUMS Harvest of the Month
We are excited to share that we have received a district ACEEF grant to bring Vermont Harvest of the Month to MUMS. Vermont Harvest of the Month is a farm to school campaign that promotes healthy eating and connections to local seasonal foods.
Our project will bring students together to design menus, create budgets, purchase local ingredients, and prepare foods from local farms and cooperatives for our community. We will organize tasting fairs and share monthly harvest recipes in our family newsletter like this one, Spaghetti Squash and Meatballs. We look forward to all the positive ways this will impact our students and community.
Fall themed celebration
The morning of our early release day we shared in a celebration around a fall theme. Each team decorated one classroom on their team and the rooms were judged by counselors and Administration. Here are our winners and a few pictures. This was a really fun way to celebrate the changing of the seasons and build community on our teams.
- Best Overall- Team 3 (The Three Musketeers)
- Most Creative- Team 4 (Team Evergreen)
- Best Use of Materials- Team 2 (Team Summit 2.0)
- Most School Spirit- Team 1(Team Discovery)
Dance!
Mark your calendars, we are planning a Dance for Friday December 1st 2023! The dance will be for 6th through 8th graders and run from 7:00-9:00 pm. Entrance fee will be $5.00 and if a student cannot afford the entry fee, they can connect with their counselor and we will comp the entrance fee.
Proceeds from this event will go toward field trips and ways that you can donate items and volunteer are forthcoming in next weeks' newsletter.
Addison County Parent Survey
Attention Parents! This quick 10-minute survey will help us improve youth prevention programs in Addison County. Your thoughts are super important, and our surveys are always anonymous. Plus, as a thank you, we're giving away a $100 gift certificate to a local restaurant. Please note this survey is for Addison County parents of 6th -12th graders. This survey will run through December.
Help with the staff wish list!

Memo. From Nurse Palko
REMINDER
Flu and covid are on the rise!
If your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL.
Fever 100.4 and greater
Chills
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Flu like symptoms- general malaise, body aches
The student must be symptom free for at least 24 hours (without the use of medications) before returning to school.
It is strongly encouraged to test your child for covid. Unfortunately, the school is unable to provide covid tests to students at this time, we should be getting more in- but a very minimal amount. Please check your local pharmacy, online, or the local health department. The federal government is also offering 4 free covid tests to each family, see the following website www.covid.gov
Hand hygiene! Encourage your child to hand wash frequently and utilize hand sanitizer. Cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. And don't forget to schedule your child for their annual flu shot and covid booster!
Following these guidelines will help stop widespread flu and covid throughout the school. If you have any questions please reach out. Thank you!
