Lockwood Community Newsletter September 2023
Principal's Message
On behalf of the Lockwood staff, we are excited to welcome our students, families, and community partners for the 2023-2024 school year! I hope you had a safe and enjoyable summer break. Personally, I was able to get away for some short excursions to Lake Chelan and Palm Springs. My days were spent relaxing by the pool or playing on the lake. Last week our teachers and staff were busy attending trainings and preparing their classrooms for the start of the school year.
My first couple months at Lockwood have been filled with getting to know the staff, students, and community members. It is important for me to create a culture of trust, open communication, and a shared commitment for the success of staff and students. Meeting our students and community at Supply Drop Off and Community Serve Day was a highlight for me.
This newsletter has important information to ensure a smooth start of the school year. Please reach out if you have any questions or needs. My email is sramirez@nsd.org and my phone number is 425-408-5805.

Become a Volunteer (Classroom/Field Trip)
All volunteers in Northshore are required to complete an online volunteer application to volunteer during the school year. It is also important to note that all volunteers who have completed a background check in the past will be expected to renew their volunteer application annually. If you completed a Level 2 background check in the past, you will only need to complete a Level 1 check to renew your volunteer status.
Join the Lunch Recess Volunteer Team
Our playground volunteers help make Lockwood a safe and fun place to be by helping kids in small ways like tying shoes, to bigger ways like giving gentle reminders of school policy, reporting incidents to playground staff and building social skills. This is a great way to get to know our school and Lockwood students of all ages!
If interested, use the link below after you have read through Northshore School District Volunteer Orientation and completed your volunteer background check (see Become a Volunteer above).
Change in After School Plans
Any change to your student’s routine must be validated by a note from parent/guardian. If a note is not possible, please call the office 425.408.5800 by 3:30 pm on M/T/Th/F, and 1:30 pm on Wednesdays to ensure your student’s teacher is able to make any needed arrangements. Emailing staff is not always reliable due to absences or substitutes.
