Good Afternoon Plainville Families,
I hope everyone is doing well and feeling comfortable with students coming back to school for five full days on April 5th. Teachers, custodians, office staff and administrators have been working on logistics to make April 5th a smooth transition. Please know that the school options are now either full 5 day in-person or fully remote. Hybrid will no longer be available after April 5th. Students will now have to be in-person every day or fully remote. Many families are now considering bus transportation. If you are in need of the bus, please fill out the Bus Change Form. Select ‘Cohort A’ on the form. If you have any questions or concerns about the transition or transportation, please feel free to contact the school. I also want to inform families that Mrs. Guzzetti, one of our front office secretaries will be leaving us on March 26. She will be greatly missed by staff as well as students. Feel free to send her an inspirational message as she moves on to further her career.
March is Read Across America Month!
Read Across America will have its final week of ‘structured’ reading activities focusing on ‘Our Cultures Coast to Coast.’ As a culminating project and in connection to next week's "Cultural Curiosity," students and staff will have the opportunity to create a paper quilt square that is decorated in a way that best represents their family. It is only one square per child. Squares are going to be put together to make a rather colorful quilt in each grade's hallway as we are ALL pieces of Plainville! If students could return their completed squares by March 29th we can display grade level masterpieces in April, kicking off our next school wide adventure. Please check out several cultural book selections that you may want to peruse next week.

Report Cards
The second trimester is almost complete! Teachers are beginning to prepare for report cards. Please encourage your child (ren) to complete any and all work demonstrating their best ability for teachers to accurately report on every standard taught to date. Report cards will be available in the parent portal on Monday, March 29th.
Drives
The eyeglasses are trickling in and the bin is getting fuller and fuller by the day! Thank you to all who have cleaned out desks and drawers, taking the time to donate old glasses for those in need. What a wonderful way to easily give to others, spreading kindness and the gift of sight. Thank you. We will continue until Wednesday, March 31st, so keep the glasses coming!
While in the mood of giving, please keep in mind that the School Council will be putting ‘bags of hope’ together soon. Items such as tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer wipes, chapstick and more will be collected and packaged for those in need of a little ‘hope.’ Another quick and easy way to support others, send some hope their way and fill your own heart with promise. This inspirational event will begin on March 29th. More details to follow.
PTO
Please keep an eye out for book fair news and the option to purchase the next great book online! The next PTO meeting will be Thursday, April 8 at 8 pm.
Grade 6
Mark your calendar as King Philip Middle School will be holding an online curriculum night on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 6:30 PM on Zoom. KPMS Curriculum Night is an online event that is intended for families of rising 7th Graders. Please complete the online registration prior to the start of the event. Event Registration Link
DARE
We are also looking into grade 6 DARE classes to take place after April 5. DARE is a program led by the Police to teach and empower students to respect themselves and others, choosing to lead lives free of substance abuse, violence and other dangerous behavior. This 10 week program will be facilitated by Officer Cohen from the Plainville Police Department. In addition, the DARE summer program, "DARE to Dream,'' is excited to announce their summer dates. For those currently in 6th grade students can attend from July 26-30, current 5th grade students are from August 2-6 and the current 4th grade students attend from August 9-13. Plainville Families,
As we navigate these challenging times, as a staff we agreed to modify our summer program for this year with hopes to have our usual number of weeks in 2022.
We hope to have our applications available by the end of April through the elementary schools and our website. As we develop our itinerary, we will be looking at state regulations and CDC guidelines. With that in mind we reserve the right to change our activities and/or field trips during each week we are open.
Please know that we do not take these decisions lightly and understand the impacts this may have on our students and their families. We will be doing our best to keep everyone safe, healthy and entertained.
