Superintendent's Message

Loveland Tiger Community,

A few days ago, voters in the Loveland City Schools community approved the district’s request for a 4.9 mill operating levy. This levy will allow us to continue providing our students with the high-quality education our community expects from Loveland City School District.

Fiscal responsibility is one of the four goals of our #beLOVEland Strategic Vision, and I know that our community expects it from our district leadership. My promise to our community is that our district will continue to watch our costs while serving the needs of our students.

While the approval of this levy helps our district’s immediate financial concerns, there is still work to be done. Ohio’s school funding system places communities into conflict by requiring school districts to return to voters for funds. Ohio is the only state in the country with this type of school funding system, and parts of it have been ruled unconstitutional but remain unfixed.

Over the last two years, I have met with several local lawmakers to advocate our school district’s financial needs. I’ve found them all receptive and understanding about Loveland's challenges. With last Tuesday behind us, I would like to build a coalition of Loveland community members to work together for a long-term school funding solution. If you are interested in being part of a conversation on how state school funding can be improved to meet the needs of our students, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please contact me at broadwmi@lovelandschools.org.

Go Tigers!

#beLOVEland Strategic Vision Update

During last month’s Board Meeting, Dr. Stace Puerta, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, provided an update on the #beLOVEland Strategic Vision. Over the next five years, the #beLOVEland Strategic Vision will help focus the district’s work on four goals: student success, collaborative culture, community engagement, and fiscal responsibility.

Last summer, we finalized our #beLOVEland Strategic Vision. Work has been underway this school year to discover, research, and implement the strategies that will help bring the vision into reality. You can review the #beLOVEland Strategic Vision and the update on our work during the 22-23 school year by visiting lovelandschools.org/vision.

Second Graders Read "Poetry in the Park"

Last month, some of our amazing second-grade students participated in “Poetry in the Park.” Second graders from Mrs. Foltz, Mrs. Little, Mrs. McDonald, and Mrs. Schlesselman’s classes walked to Nisbet Park and read poems they created about “the best part of me.” Thank you to the parents and community members who came out to celebrate this special day!

Adoptable Dogs and LECC Tiger Cubs!

Looking to add a furry friend to your family? Kindergarten students recently worked with SPCA Cincinnati on a fantastic project. Our students wrote bios for Mojito, Lady, Abby, Myles, Rosco, Piglet, Rosie, and Mickey. Students met adoptable pets, learned about each one, then stretched their writing skills by creating adoption biographies! Super cute! See their work, and maybe adopt a dog: https://www.spcacincinnati.org/adopt/dogs/dogs/.

Get Your Bus Safety Signs!

One of our Loveland bus drivers has launched a mission to increase student safety by partnering with RP Diamond to offer bus safety yard signs. The signs remind drivers not to drive around stopped school buses because kids may be crossing the street. Place the sign in your yard to make the trip to school safer for our students. Signs are $7.50 and can be ordered through RP Diamond by following this link. Thank you to driver Michele Winter for leading this project!

And if you want to help our Transportation Department, consider applying to be a bus driver. Like districts across the country, Loveland needs more drivers. Paid training is available, and we’d love to have more drivers join our amazing team!
