Career and College Update

We are looking to hire a student for part time work beginning sometime this month to perform copy work, filing, and other administrative tasks. We are a very busy tax firm with one office in Stayton, and another in Salem.. The position I am hiring for is in Stayton.

Skills include:

• Ability to communicate in person with staff and on the telephone
• Copy work
• Great attention to detail
• Writing skills when preparing tax file folders and input sheets
• Work independently after given instructions
• Take direction from myself and our Administrative Assistant
• Answering phones and taking messages
• Ability to operate in fast paced environment

This job could easily turn into a permanent position, part time, to begin with, but develop into a long term permanent position.

We also offer our employees the opportunity to study for and take the tax preparers' exam to become a licensed tax preparer. There are several levels of tax preparer licensing. The highest level requires college. When/if they pass the testing, they will be reimbursed for all costs and will become a permanent employee of the firm.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, Due January 11, $6,000 renewable scholarship for minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.

Live Más Scholarship, Due January 11, Up to $25,000 from the Taco Bell Foundation for creating a 2-minute video that tells the story of your life's passion.

FFA Scholarships, Due January 12, Over $2 million in scholarships given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest, Due January 13, Up to $10,000 for an essay on an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born. Open to students in grades 9-12.

Bilingual Teacher Scholars Program (WOU). Apply to WOU, then apply for this scholarship by March 1. For Bilingual students planning to go into teaching.

APIA Scholarship, Due January 19, Up to $20,000 in scholarships for Asian and/or Pacific Islander students with a 2.7 GPA or higher who will be the first in their families to attend college.

Willamette Valley Society of Women Engineers Scholarships, Due January 25, Scholarships for females with a 3.0 GPA or higher planning to study engineering from the Willamette Valley or central coast.

Sister Adele Scholarship, Due January 31. The purpose of this need-based scholarship is to encourage and provide individuals of farmworker families that live in Oregon with the opportunity to further their academic or technical education at the educational institution of their choosing.

Hispanic Chamber Latino Scholarship, Due January 31, Scholarships for Hispanic students in Oregon with a 3.0 GPA or higher who will attend higher education.

Mente Summit Scholarship, Due January 31, $1,000 scholarship for Latinx males who live in Oregon.

Cesar E Chavez Leadership Conference Scholarship, OREGON STUDENTS ONLY, Due February 1, The purpose of the CECLC Scholarship is to encourage and provide students from a Latinx or migrant farm worker background the opportunity to further their academic and technical potential as they prepare to become future leaders.

National Eagle Scout Association Scholarship, Due January 31, $2,000 - $50,000 scholarships open to high school seniors through college juniors who are Eagle Scouts.

Oregon FFA Scholarships, Due January 31, Several scholarships for Oregon students who participated in FFA.

Oregon Wheat Scholarship: Due February 1, up to 12 $1000 scholarships for students whose parent is a grower member of the Oregon Wheat Growers League

Epsilon Sigma Alpha Scholarships: Due February 1. 35 Scholarships available, see above!

Al Forthan Scholarship, Due February 6, up to $10,000 for high school seniors in Oregon who have been impacted by addiction and poverty.

Abby's Closet: Due February 10, Four scholarships for women for trade school, community college, 4-year university, and the health care field.

Willamette Valley Society of Women Engineers Scholarships, Due February 10, Scholarships for females with a 3.0 GPA or higher planning to study engineering from the Willamette Valley or central coast.

AOPA Flight Training Scholarship, Due February 10, $2,500 to $14,000 for primary flight training, advanced ratings/certificates, and aviation maintenance.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Due February 14, Over 140 different scholarship programs with one general scholarship application for Hispanic students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. DACA students are eligible.

OSAC SCHOLARSHIPS: Due February 15 (Early Bird) or March 1.

Coolidge Scholarship, Due February 23, The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited college or university in the United States. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.

Guy Davis Scholarship, Due March 1, for students with a relative who is a part of the OSEA, 3.0 GPA.

Ford Family Scholarships, Due March 1, covers 90% of college costs, SHS students win these regularly! Needs based, FAFSA EFC below 6000.

Oregon ACTE Scholarship: Due March 15. We are pleased to be able to offer two, $1,000 scholarships for students heading into (or already enrolled in) a trade or CTE related program. This includes apprenticeship programs, community college CTE programs, certification programs, trade schools (culinary school, cosmetology, etc.). Students can use the funds for items or services needed to be successful in their program, such as child care, safety equipment, tools, tuition, computer and transportation, in addition to tuition expenses.

We are hosting ongoing drop-in and 1:1 webinars for students to support them with the new OSAC application system. The webinars include time for technical help, Q&A, scholarship application tips, and more!
