Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know for the coming week.
July 30, 2023
a note from the principal
I hope everyone had a good weekend and was able to avoid the heat! It was great to see so many of you at the Welcome Back Dinner on Thursday evening; we had our biggest turnout yet! Thank you to our amazing PTA board for putting on such a well-planned event and to all the volunteers who helped to make it run smoothly. An especially big THANK YOU is due to Bobby Farr for grilling hundreds of hot dogs in the blazing heat! Mr. Farr's own children attended Easley and he still comes back to support our PTA and school community. I'm always thankful for our warm community and parent involvement; it indeed takes a village and I'm glad to be a part of Easley's.
School Improvement Team
This year we have four seats open on our SIT and we had four individuals complete the interest form. Please take a moment and read the submissions and get to know our new SIT representatives. The School Improvement Team meeting agendas and minute are located on our school website for anyone who is interested in knowing more about SIT and what it entails.
JJ Campbell - Kindergarten
I'm a retired geophysicist interested in science education and equity.
Carol Terry - 3rd grade
I think because of my experience as a parent, school nurse and a retiree, that I will bring to the group my experience. I am also African American and could add diversity to the group.
Laura Toptine - Kindergarten
I am a former teacher turned mental health counselor. I believe schools are most successful when given time, support, and resources to incorporate social-emotional learning. I'd love the opportunity to work alongside teachers to nurture students' awareness and understanding of mental health.
Leah Wilhelm - Third Grade
I have been a teacher for 21 years, 16 of those in public education. I know how valuable the School Improvement Team is to each school and I would welcome the opportunity to be a part of Easley's growth and reputation of excellence.
Our first SIT meeting will be on Monday, August 14th at 5:30 PM in the media center.
Early Release Day
Our first early release day is Friday, August 11th and students will dismiss two hours early, at 12:15 PM.
Bloomz Messaging
The good news is that Bloomz has signed the data agreement with the state but now we are waiting on the district to sync PowerSchool and Bloomz. Again, thank you for your patience.
CCClothing Donations
We keep a stash of clothing in the front office for those times when students need a change of clothes (muddy playgrounds, spills, bathroom accidents, etc). If you have any clothes your child has outgrown or no longer wear, we would appreciate the donation. Specifically we need shorts, leggings, joggers, etc. of all sizes.
When Students are Sick
The first two week of school, we've had about thirty students out sick each day. Please help us to stay as healthy as possible by keeping your little ones home if they are not well. Please also keep in mind that Covid-19 is still with us and be mindful of those symptoms and keep students home and follow the district guidelines and CDC recommendations. You can see the district guideline in the image below.
Kindergarten Color Days
At the start of each year our kindergarten students participate in color days and invite the rest of the school to participate as well. Please see the assigned dates and colors, should your child wish to participate.
Monday, July 31 - white
Tuesday, August 1 - pink
Wednesday, August 2 - black
Thursday, August 3 - orange
Friday, August 4 - gray
A Message From the PTA
We loved seeing so many of you at the welcome back dinner! Thank you to all who attended. A big shout out to all of our volunteers who made the night such a success. We are so grateful for your hard work and support.
Our first PTA meeting is coming up on August 14th at 6:30 pm in our media center and via Zoom. Spanish interpretation will be provided. In this meeting you will learn more about PTA plans for the year, including committee work. We will also present and vote on our budget for the school year. More information will be coming soon.
If you have not joined the PTA, you can still do so here. Membership is $7 per person. Membership does not carry over from year to year – so please join again if you were a member last school year.
PTA Committees
Please consider also joining a committee if you haven’t already—you can find committee descriptions with links to signups here. Please know that we understand your time is limited and valuable–and our committees will work to divide responsibilities to match the amount of time you are able to give.
