A Busy Start to Autumn 1
It has been a busy start back to school with new themes being started and lots of getting to know new classmates and teams. As well as finding out what each class has been up to you will also find links to book clubs, diary dates, reading reward information, Friday Book Bag information, knowledge organisers, medium term plans, menus, attendance information, have your say on how we can involve parents and find out about our newly elected school council.
As you will know we had Ofsted inspectors visit the school on the 12th and 13th July. Our final report landed today and is included below. The report will be on the Ofsted website within 8 working days. We hope that you will be as pleased as we are.
Remember to follow us on Instagram swinefleet_pr and join our school Facebook group.
Have a lovely weekend!
Look at what we have been Learning
Pearls
The Pearl’s children have settled back into school life extremely well. Over the last two weeks we have been focusing on settling back into school, sharing with our friends and remembering how to tidy up!
This half term our theme is ‘Me, My School and Swinefleet’. We have started by learning about our school. We have read ‘Starting School’ and ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School’ and talking about the similarities with our school day. We have been learning about our classroom and we have had a tour of the school and met some of the adults who look after us. In our provision, the children have been making food in the mud kitchen, experimenting with mixing paints and having picnics with their friends in the role play area. We have also been singing counting songs and songs related to the days of the week and months of the year.
Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about our bodies and Harvest.
(Please could we ask Mums and Dads to make sure all our clothing and belongings are named, as we will be trying to be a little more independent by looking after our belongings, thank you.)
Rubies
Diamonds
Welcome to Diamonds! Our team (Miss Chiswell, Ms. Bryan, Mrs Moffat and Mrs Dexter), along with the children have had a fantastic start to the Autumn term. We have had our very own ‘Wow Day’ to go with our new theme ‘Stone Age’ – we were Cave People for the day, foraging for food, creating Stone Age jewellery using clay and building our own version of Stonehenge! Children have also put together their own Class Charter, as a team, of which they have all signed to say they agree to.
Swimming got off to a brilliant start; it’s amazing to see them all so excited and confident, willing to learn. Please could children remember to bring in their swimming kits every Monday morning. On Monday afternoons, we are very lucky to have Jordan with us from Hull FC – this half term he is working on Rugby skills with them. Again, please could children all have full outdoor PE kit with them every day.
In English, we are reading ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ with the aim of creating our very own set of instructions. Within Maths, we are working on place value. In Science, we kicked off our ‘Rocks’ topic with a walk around the village.
Please do log on to Seesaw if you haven’t already. There will be a Reading Reward just before October half term for all children who reach the following: 18 Bronze; 24 Silver and 36 Gold. And finally, children are encouraged to log onto TT Rockstars to aid their mathematical knowledge. Certificates are awarded in the Friday Celebration Assembly.
Our door is always open if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.
Sapphires
Sapphires have settled well back into the routines of school. It is lovely to see all the children in their smart school uniform setting a positive example to the younger children by displaying the Swinefleet values. The Sapphires class have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a WOW afternoon to kick start learning about the Ancient Egyptians. The children created masks, built pyramids out of lego, wrote their names in hieroglyphics and created a new Egyptian god. The Sapphires have come up with a class charter and are excited to get started on their new book – Secrets of the Sun King. A super first two weeks back – well done!
Knowledge Organisers and Parent Information
Medium Term Plans have been uploaded so that you can see a little more detail about what your child will be learning.
Thank you to those of you who attended our Parent Welcome Night. Powerpoints have been uploaded to class pages for those who were unable to attend.
If you would ever like to know any further information or how you can support your child further then please do not hesitate to speak to a member of your child's teaching team.
Friday Book Bags
Each pack includes instructions but please see the teaching team if you have any further questions.
Parental Involvement
We have a number of events for parents/families planned in the background but would love to know more about the types of parent events you would like to see us include. We have created a very brief survey to get your opinion on our ideas and there is also the opportunity to share your ideas with us. The survey will take no more than a couple of minutes and can be accessed using the button below.
Our Mums, Dads and Grandparents to lunch events will take place again this year (see the Diary Dates section further below).
Clubs
Clubs have started but there is still time to join in.
Please click the button below to book extra-curricular clubs for both after school and lunchtimes. All clubs are free including those run by professional sports coaches.
Reading Reward
I wonder what the reading treat will be this half-term after the fun of bouncy castles as part of the summer treat?
The levels for reading are:
Bronze - 18 reads
Silver - 24 reads
Gold - 36 reads
Reading clubs are worth 3 reads and can be booked through the club link in this newsletter for lunchtime and/or after school.
Reads ideally should be logged on Tapestry or Seesaw so please contact a member of your child's teaching team if having difficulties and they will be happy to help[. If your child is younger sharing a story with them counts as a read this means that it is accessible to all.
All Seesaw logins have been sent out (please speak to staff if having any issues). Diamonds and Sapphires children should only use the codes sent out on Friday as the first class set up had a glitch.
Most Tapestry accounts are live for Pearls however new starters will be linked by Mrs Clarkson on Monday so please see her if you have any issues.
Meet the School Council
The children have elected this year's School Council who will be working with Mrs Beadle one of the school's Governors.
The team have already met and will meet each month to discuss their ideas and organise events.
P.E
Please ensure that P.E kit is in school all week.
Hull FC will be working with us again this year and each class will work with them on either Monday or Tuesday.
Year 3, 4 and 5 begin swimming on Monday so please make sure you have swimming kits with you too.
Uniform and Ordering Uniform
Please can you ensure that your child wears uniform as this is compulsory from Reception. The children wear uniform with pride as part of our school absolutes. Uniform does not need to carry our school logo and many supermarkets stock red jumpers at less cost.
As a school, we will be sending out uniform orders for any who wish to order so please keep an eye out for this. We are able to offer support with uniform for those in receipt of Free School Meals and you will be contacted next week regarding this.
Please ensure that your child has equipment suitable to the weather such as sun cream in this hot weather and a coat when the weather is less bright. School provide sunhats.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Drop-Ins
If you would like to speak to Mrs Thurlow regarding any SEND needs then she is available every Tuesday morning and will be visible on the playground. Please also feel free to speak to your child's teaching team.
Attendance and why it is Important
Below are some leaflets explaining the importance of school attendance. There is some advice to support high attendance and staff are always willing to help so please speak to us should you need any help.
If your child is off school staff will ensure that any work is kept for them and then can be sent home so that they do not fall behind.
Please ensure that you let us know if your child is unwell so that we can record this as authorised.
Staff Spotlight
This fortnight our staff spotlight is on Mrs Thurlow and Mrs Harrison.
Mrs Thurlow
Mrs Thurlow is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and offers a parent drop-in regarding any Special Educational Needs concerns on a Tuesday morning.
Mrs Harrison
Mrs Harrison has worked at the school for over a decade and is a member of our the Sapphires teaching team. As well as working with Years 5 & 6, Mrs Harrison teaches the other classes when their teacher is on PPA or if on a course. Diamonds and Sapphires are taught by her weekly and love her Jigsaw and French sessions.
Mrs Harrison is a big advocate in developing the children's citizenship skills and was passionate about setting up our monthly cooking for the homeless. If there is a drama or singing activity, Mrs Harrison is bound to be at the centre of it!
Menu and Diary Dates
Please see the menu below. Children can have a hot dinner on any day and do not need to be hot dinners all week. Dinners do not need to be pre-booked.
Dinners can be paid for via our ParentMail App. Children in Reception, Year One and Year Two are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.
Free School Meals are available to some children dependent on household income. If you think you could be eligible there is more information available via Apply for free school meals - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) or Mrs Risebury will happily give you further information of how to apply.
Future Diary Dates
Click the link below to access future diary dates including Christmas production dates and residential dates. New dates are in red.
School Places
If you have friends or family who are wanting a place at the school either now or in the future then please encourage them to contact us via email or over the phone. This is especially important if they will want places as a 2-Year Old or in our Nursery or Reception as places for next year are now limited.
Thank you
