Word Wall Words
Please help your child learn to recognize the sight words. These are words that they will come across frequently as they read and will want to write them as an author. You can, of course, simply use the flash cards that were provided. However, your child will enjoy other means to learn these words. Below are three suggestions on fun activities:
- Glue cereal on top of each new word
- Play Go Fish with several words
- Create puzzles using popsicles or paper
Literacy Workstations
Grace worked hard finding Word Wall Words and coloring them in.
Word Work
Each student cut apart an apple with their name on it. Then they practiced building their name. This helps them recognize the letters in their name and put them in order.
Writers Workshop
During Writers Workshop we are labeling the characters and other features in our stories.
Shared Reading
During Shared Reading we reread big books to become familiar with them. Early in the year they have simple patterns that we can read.We have also started reading books on the Smartboard.
Math
This week in math we are working on counting objects and creating equal sets and/or determining if a set is less than or greater than the other.
Math Workstations
Math Workstations are used to practice skills that have already been introduced. Number writing continues to be an area that many children need to keep practicing.
Reading Workshop
As readers we are continuing to reflect on the stories we are reading; asking who, what, where, when, why and how. Students read from their browse bags daily. The end of the 9 weeks is approaching. Please try to complete the “Rockin’ Reader” log. The students are very proud to turn it in and celebrate with the class.
Science
In science we are discovering our 5 senses. We did a taste test to discover how apples can taste very different. The Honey Crisps were definitely the overall favorite!
Technology Fun!
We enjoyed playing on our ChromeBooks and learning basic functions. Friday, we visited Mrs. Rollison. The students had to solve clues to open locks on a virtual escape room! Super cool!
Celebrating Our Friends!
Zamora, Aaliyah and Braelyn had their artwork selected to be on display at the district office! We are all proud of them!
Nasir turned 6 last Friday, September 30th! We enjoyed singing to him and learning how his family celebrated!
Book Buddies
We had our first visit with our Book Buddies! They will come on Friday afternoons. What a fun way to end the week!
