Laker Weekly
March 6 - March 10
Principal's Post
Dear Laker Community,
YouthTruth surveys are now open. We encourage you to participate in the survey as it is an incredibly valuable way to help us improve students’ experiences in our school. Only 13% of our families completed the survey last year, we need your input this year!
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on March 24 by clicking this link: http://ytsurvey.org/losdfamily23
Please note:
The survey needs to be completed in one sitting; about 15 minutes to complete.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
If you have any questions about the survey or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please feel free to reach out to me via email at colyerk@loswego.k12.or.us. We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.
Thank you,
Kristen Colyer

Help our backpack club
Most kids can’t wait for the weekend…but kids who are food insecure can’t wait for it to be over. These kids receive state-funded meals at school, but often do not have enough to eat after school on Friday and before school on Monday.
That’s where the Backpack Club steps in and provides individual weekend food packs to kids every Friday.
These packs are filled with the items that are:
Nutritious & Tasty
Shelf-Stable
Single-Serving & Easy to Open
We are holding our very first food drive this spring!
There are two ways to participate:
Donations via Amazon – you simply click our Amazon Wish List, select the items and quantity you would like to donate, and select “Backpack Club” at checkout under “Choose a shipping address”. The items will be delivered directly to the school! (Otherwise, the items will be shipped to your default address, and you can bring them to the school.)
Monetary Donations – you can donate via this link and the Backpack Club will put your donation to good use (and we will have fun shopping for the best deals!)
If you have any questions, or if you would like to participate in another way, please reach out to club president, Ava Brenden: avabrenden@icloud.com
Thank you for your continued support!

Comedian Bios:
Mandy Simonson
Mandy grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, cultivating a thick skin getting teased by her brothers. She started performing comedy in Portland, OR, mostly to escape the suburbs and prove she can stay up past 9pm. Mandy takes challenging topics and makes them relatable to her audience. She quickly makes you feel like you’re gabbing with your best friend.
Mandy earned a comedy residency at the Broadway Comedy Club in NYC this past summer, where she learned to properly order a cup a cawfee. She performed at the HaHa Harvest Comedy Festival and earned a residency at the East Austin Comedy Club.
David Kildal
David is a Portland, Oregon-based standup comedian. Born in Southern Oregon and raised in Dayton, Ohio, David is well versed in making light of unexciting situations. David describes his style as “chill, yet spicy, like a leftover chicken wing.”
Marietje Hauprich
Marietje (muh-ree-chah) is a standup comic based in Portland, OR. She grew up in the rough streets of New York. The state not the city. Upstate. Dirt streets. Woods. She draws from her life experiences, such as the struggles of being a dedicated helicopter mom to four cats. Marietje is a regular at Helium Comedy Club and has performed at the Upper Left and St. John’s Comedy Festivals.
Arlo Weierhauser
Arlo Weierhauser is pretty fun. They were Portland’s Funniest Person 2017, performed at JFL Montreal 2018, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and were in Disney's "Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made". They can be seen in Epix Season 2 of "Unprotected Sets".

Ways to report incidents related to bias, racism or harassment in losd
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
