Mindset by Carol Dweck
HF Parent/Teacher Book Study - Part 2, Chapters 4-6
"Character is what allows you to reach the top and stay there."
p.97, Mindset, Carol Dweck
In the chapters on Sports and Business, Dweck reinforces the idea that natural talent may help you to achieve a particular goal, but talent alone will not allow you to remain successful. Repeatedly, she gives examples of the necessity of working hard and being more interested in learning than in the domination of others.
"Personal Accountability and Reflection" by Dr. Jackie Gerstein
One of the important points Carol Dweck makes is that we need to stop blaming others when things don't go the way we hoped. This article includes a wonderful infographic that helps us to reflect in any situation about the control we have over our own outcomes.

Tough Stuff
"Growing Sound" provides music to motivate young children. Their "Tough Stuff" CD has several tracks that might be good to use in Kinder-2nd Grades. I particularly like the title track.
