Falcon Flyer
Belong. Inspire. Grow.
Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families--It’s going to be difficult for me to capture the emotion and excitement of events from over a week ago that still need to be shared! Last week I completed my newsletter on Thursday before the end of the day because my Editor-in-Chief, Tessa, was off to Hillsboro with the Regiment. That same night we honored our senior volleyball athletes and had maybe the largest student section ever in attendance, and capped off the night with an exciting win over Ferris!
Students supporting other students’ activities is an important indicator for our success as a school, creating an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging. I see this often and it always makes me smile to see friends and classmates at football games, concerts, plays, and more—just to be there for them. A great example was the orchestra concert last night. I talked to or noticed dozens of students just there for fun and support. Great performance from our orchestra students last night!
Friday night our football team made school history with our first win at home in Ridgeline Stadium! I’m super proud of the guys putting in the work every week and showing up to compete! They earned a solid victory over Ferris.
Another characteristic I appreciate about our students is their respect for others. Ridgeline cheerleader, Juliette Poignand du Fontenioux (I’m using her full name because she deserves credit for me saying it wrong most times), came up to me with about 2-3 minutes left in the game and asked politely if it would be ok if the students storm the football field. We were confident we had this game in the bag and I was thinking the same thing she was—of course we’re storming the field! There’s an art to storming a field with class vs. being out of control. I was proud of the way our student section contained themselves until the end. When they stormed the field, they stayed just away from the teams so they could shake hands. Other than jumping over the fence and a few falls, it went very well. The energy and emotion when the team and students converged was spectacular! This experience was a powerful binding moment that all involved will never forget!
Jump to Saturday and the Ridgeline Regiment competing in Hillsboro… and as you may already know, our group did what is nearly impossible and swept all the awards—again! Essentially, this was an undefeated season for overall best performing group and best in every individual category in every competition this fall! Not having grown up around marching band, I don’t really know how to capture this accomplishment—so I’m going to go with State Champs!
Our soccer girls also won Saturday and qualified for the District 8 Championship game on Tuesday—which they won! They defeated Mead on a cold and rainy night to be our first-ever District 8 champs! They will be seeded for State on Sunday.
Volleyball continued to roll the same night, and the girls defeated Kennewick to advance another round in the playoffs! They can punch their ticket to State on Saturday if they beat Mt. Spokane!
Girls cross country state qualifiers, Alivia Bruno and Paige Huntsinger, run in Pasco tomorrow as well—good luck to them!
Our district is beginning the first stage of developing our 5-year strategic plan, and they gathered input from Ridgeline students: senior class reps Lily Pesnell and Rudy Malloy; juniors Sanjana Sharma, Deakon Sell, and KJ Haneke; sophomores Habiba Adam, Brooklyn Hillman, and Marco Lopez; and freshmen McKinley Bell and Addison Hunnel. A big thanks to them for sharing their insight and honesty!
We’re looking forward to celebrating our military this coming Thursday during our Veterans’ Day assembly. If you have a military background or know anyone who does, we’d love to have you here to say thank you!
I heard Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, so set your clock BACK 1 hour! Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
