Jackie Robinson Academy Weekly Newsletter 1/13/24
Dear JROB Families!
Happy New Year JROB! As I reflect on the past decade in education, I am reminded of the progress we've made in making choices that are best for kids. From the sage on stage to the facilitator of learning, teachers too have made adjustments and continue to adapt their practices to be more student-centered. Curriculums from Cognitively Guided Instruction in Math to Writers Workshop to Next Generation Science Standards focus on making sure learning begins with students' prior knowledge and adapt to their specific needs. Prioritizing student choice, autonomy, independence, and funds of knowledge honors all our learners and values the contributions they make to our shared learning.
Thinking about our district's focus on inclusion, innovation, student-centered accountability, equity, and community, we have a lot ahead of us, but have also made great strides in each of these areas. When thinking about curriculum, enrichment, best practices, staff professional development, learning experiences, safety, staffing and beyond, we make every effort to make decisions in the best interests of our students using the following filters:
Is it good for kids?
Is it sustainable?
Does it build capacity for kids and adults?
Is it aligned with the current program or does it drain resources from our current goals?
As we move into 2024, I know that we will continue to learn and grow together, making decisions as a community that serve the whole child and every child. I wish you all a happy 2024 and look forward to an amazing year of growth and reflection!
Your proud principal,
Rebecca Ngo
