Do the R.I.G.H.T. Thing!
Yesterday we had a great assembly brought to us by the PTA: Bullying Prevention Laser School Assembly Program by Jesse from Prismatic Magic. In the assembly, the audience was taught to do the R.I.G.H.T thing. Respect others, practice Integrity, be Generous, show Honesty and be True to oneself. This message is a good one for children of all ages, including we the adults. Our assembly launched an important month for us. October is filled with themes where we should do the R.I.G.H.T. thing. It's still Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15- October 15) where we celebrate and Respect the our Hispanic/Latinx community. Plus, October is Bullying Prevention month. This topic encourages us to act with Integrity and Honesty, It's so important for us all to learn to be better upstanders. It's also Disability Awareness Month. Being Generous in our mindset and being True to Oneself helps us build our empathy and find our own self-worth. May we have a month filled with doing the R.I.G.H.T. thing! (Pictured is an attempt at showing you the laser show)
In other news, here are some general updates and reminders:
- Road Closure Warning SoCalGas will be working on Spad Place October 3- November 7.
- Health Alert from The Los Angeles Department of Public Health. The Hayward Police seized over 700 Fentanyl Pills, and warn they look like candy. "Brightly-colored fentanyl (referred to as rainbow fentanyl) has been identified as a new trend according to the United States (U.S.) Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) [3]. Rainbow fentanyl can be found in many forms, including pills, powder, and blocks that can resemble sidewalk chalk or candy. Any pill (regardless of its color, shape, or size) that does not come from a health care provider or pharmacist can contain fentanyl and can be deadly."
- Absence Reminder. If your child is absent due to a religious holiday, please tell the office this. We can code the absence differently.

EVERY PARENT AT LA BALLONA NEEDS TO COMPLETE THIS!- Repeated
A special note from Dr. Godbey- La Ballona receives federal funding each year due to the number of families at our school living at or near the poverty line. We use our funding to provide your children with programs and support such as kindergarten aides in every classroom, free aftercare, free theater, Chromebooks and/or ipads for every single student, classroom supplies, and so on. Our students deserve this and we need your help. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE complete this application. Please.
FOOD SERVICES
Parents are asking why they should submit an application when all meals are free.
1. By submitting an application it can help your school with much needed funding for the classrooms from the federal government.
2. If their student(s) qualify for Free or Reduced Price Meals, the household may be eligible to receive discounts on their utilities and internet services.
3. Students may receive discount pricing for tests, such as ACT and SAT exams.
4. Increased percentage district-wide helps with additional funds.
Thank you all in advance for communicating this to your families Food Services will be sending out letters to families who applied last year, but have yet to apply this year next week. We need to encourage as many families/guardians as we can to submit applications. This is a requirement. Meal Application Flyer & Link
