Please keep all those who have lost loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers at this time. We continue to pray for those in our community who are unwell or suffering at the moment.

Do you have a child at home who you are planning on starting at Marist School? We are currently taking enrolments for the remainder of this year and future years.

A friendly reminder even if you have a child already at the school, you need to enrol your younger children as soon as possible please.

We are underway with The Heart Foundation charity event Jumping June in preparation for our school event to be held on June 20th. This promotes keeping our tamariki fit in a fun way, learning skipping and jumping skills along the way. The school also benefits from receiving a skipping rope for every child at our school. Over the next few weeks you can expect to see Spotlight posts showing your child/ren working in a variety of curriculum areas. The children may be working individually, in pairs or collaboratively in a group situation.

If you have not set up your Spotlight App yet or have not been using it, please contact Beth in the office on b.lockie@marist.school.nz for your unique ID and instructions on setting up the app. We will be using this tool to share your child/rens progress and achievement throughout their schooling at Marist School. This will be supported with mid year Better Together Conversations and end of year reports.

Thank you so much to all our amazing volunteers who gave up their time to set up, marshall and pack down our Whole School Cross Country. The weather cleared up and it was an amazing day.

We can be so proud of our tamariki who got out there and gave it their all with smiles on their faces and fantastic attitudes! A very big thank you to Mrs Klutz for all her hard work to make the morning such a huge success!

On Tuesday 31st May the whole school headed down to the Auckland Domain for our annual Cross Country. All of the school participated and ran really well.

The Year 4's to Year 6's started their races at 9:50am. Later in the day Year 0 to Year 3 arrived. Year 6 guided the juniors around the race track.

Chavoin won the most points, Austin came second, Pompallier came third and Bernard came fourth.

It was great seeing the Year 6s run with the juniors. It was a blast and everyone had fun and tried very hard.

On Cross Country day it was our very special Principal, Mrs Phillips’ birthday. The whole school sang happy birthday and the Seniors did it in sign language.

On Tuesday at school we went to cross country. Let me tell you about it!

We wore house t-shirts to school. I wore yellow because I'm in Austin. We went on a double decker bus which was fun. When we got to the domain we waited on the seats. We sat in our house groups. It took a while to wait. Year 4 Girls ran, it was tiring but it was fun too. The grass was damp because it was raining. On the bus back I was sleepy.

After lunch we made cards for Mrs Phillips, for her birthday.

Garden to Table relies on regular and dedicated volunteers to help small groups of children in kitchen and garden classes. They are a much-valued and essential part of our school's Garden to Table team and without them our programme cannot run.

Hub's 4 and 5 had an amazing adventure on buses and ferries when they visited Devonport!

Meanwhile Hub 2 loved their trip to the museum!

On Monday I went to the museum. We went to the earthquake room. It was cool. We also went to the volcano room where there was a jumbo volcano. It felt really rocky. I saw a Marae. It was very interesting. The carving was very nice.

On Monday this week, we went to the Auckland war memorial museum!

When we got there we put our bags in lockers and we started exploring! Each group took turns learning about Maori culture.Our group was first so we lined up and went to the Maori part of the museum.We had a guide named Ma. He showed us Maori weapons, tools and other Maori innovations! After that we went and explored the rest of the museum.

My favourite part of the museum was the dead mummy because it was really creepy!

On our team was Anaiah, Pippa, Elizabeth, Clarike, Kate, Maddy, Willow, Janelle and Imogen.

For our first three games we were on fire, nobody could get passed us. Every ten seconds there was a WHOOSH, BAM , CRASH. Someone was either getting hurt or scoring a goal.

For most of us, this was our first time playing at a tournament. First we played Owairaka and we crushed them. The score was 3-1 and for a first game, that was a really big deal. We won three games and lost four but we did really well. The games we lost were really close and we got unlucky.

It was the best feeling ever to represent Marist!

On Tuesday 24th Marist School sent out three Marist Primary teams, two boys teams, and a girls team. We played for the boys B team. The team started off ok, eventually getting the hang of it and bonding as a team. Our favourite thing was playing against hard teams so we could improve and learn from our mistakes.

In total we won 4 out of 6 games and our two main goalies were Kaedyn and Theo . We all loved it so much and we wish we could do it again .

We were proud to make it into the semi-finals. We would like to thank the parents, particularly Lijay`s parents, Nicholas Tolich and Mrs Kluts for organizing it all.

The people in our team were Lijay, Theo, Nathan H, Kaedyn, Luka, George, Tristan, Van and Eli.

On the 24th of May we played at the Eden/Albert football tournament. It was a blast!!! We had a great time and had plenty of fun with AMAZING players.

Our first game was against Mt Albert Primary, we won 3-1, our 2nd game was against O.L.S.H., we won 6-0. Then we played Gladstone and lost 4-2.

After that we played Mt Eden Normal Primary and we won 2-1. Our 5th game was against Maungawhau. It was the toughest team we've played. We tried so hard but lost 1-0 and also against Balmoral.

All the teams played great and showed very good sportsmanship. Maungawhau ended up winning the tournament with 14 points.

After seeing Mrs Baker in her graduation outfit we had a discussion and wrote ...
who we'd would like to be when we grow up?

When I grow up I want to be a lawyer. I want to be a lawyer because I like to solve cases and find out who the culprit is . To get there I will have to work very hard. But I will ask my friends to pretend to have a fight and I will be the one who solves the case. And since my best friend wants to be a policewoman when she grows up I think she will find the people that I am going to work with!

When I grow up I want to be a teacher or a gymnast.

I want to be a teacher because I see my teachers work hard and it looks fun. because you get to clap your hands and I would love to help people learn and to have fun.

How will I get there? I will work my hardest and try my best.

I want to be a gymnast because I do gym and because I see lots of older people and they look amazing, I want to be just like them.

How will I get there? By training my hardest and trying my best and watching other gymnasts to get ideas from them.

When I grow up I want to be an art teacher and an artist because I like art, I have skills for art and I began learning art when I was eight years old, I have art hobbies and I find it fun.

I can reach my goal of becoming an art teacher by practicing drawing and painting everyday when I have time. Plus I like drawing animals, 3d shapes, fruit, different nature pictures, houses and most of all different foods. Like donuts, cupcakes and ice creams.

This year we are continuing with Marist Meals - a pastoral care initiative. These meals are provided to families in the school & parish community when a little extra support is needed (e.g. a new baby, sickness, bereavement). With the impact of covid and many of our school and parish families isolating or unwell, it would be great if we could fill up the freezer so we can help lighten the load for families during these challenging times.

If you would like to contribute, we welcome any homemade, brought meals or baking for our freezer. Meals can be dropped off to the school office.

St Mary's Parish Foodbank is feeding nearly 2000 a month. PLEASE remember them when you are shopping - they are in desperate need of donations! Anything you can contribute will be very much appreciated.

There is a box on the front porch of the presbytery.
