As we enter this season of Thanksgiving and prepare for the holiday ahead, please be reminded of the North Rockland Central School District calendar: Early dismissal on Weds, November 22, no school on Thanksgiving Day Thurs, November 23 and Fri, November 24.
Next week will consist of lessons on the history and traditions of Thanksgiving in America as well as opportunities for our learners to experience and personify what the holiday is all about - the spirit of giving.
North Rockland students at every grade level will be distributing blessing baskets, warm socks, packing up dinner kits for local families/service members from their food collections throughout the month and having class feasts where friends can celebrate and share the things they cherish most. Their selfless actions and generosity causes a ripple effect that can inspire and improve our world.
I am blown away year after year that we can provide so many meals to our neighbors and thankful for this ever-strong community who come together to not only strive for our students’ overall success but to support the caring, compassionate and kind environment in which they learn. All our accomplishments are built on mutual respect and inclusivity.
Speaking of accomplishments, please join me in congratulating our North Rockland High School Drama Society, musicians and stage crew members who produced an incredible rendition of Arthur Miller’s original 1949 play, "Death of a Salesman." The distinctive student talents displayed on stage left the community and critics raving with Rockland News rating the performance four stars!
Among the many unique activities and initiatives taking place throughout NRCSD, I also want to make a special mention of the good work of our NJROTC unit. With over 125 cadets in our 2023-24 ranks, the program is bigger than ever. In the featured video linked below, you will get to know the program's honor, service and goals a little better.
With colder weather in the forecast and the holiday season on the horizon, it's a good time to review the District’s Snow Day Policy. North Rockland will continue to utilize traditional snow days until the three built into our calendar are exhausted. If all snow days are used the District will consider remote days when there is inclement weather.

Weather Related Announcements
Communications
NRCSD communicates weather-related announcements, including closings, delays and early dismissal in several ways so be on the lookout for:
- 1. ConnectEd Mass Notifications:
Closing information will be sent directly to a parents/guardian’s email account and cell phone via text message. In order to receive a text message, parents/guardians must sign up for SMS text message alerts linked here or download our free app.
- 2. NRCSD Website:
Weather notices are posted to the northrockland.org homepage in the special alert bar.
- 3. Local Media:
Closing and delay notifications will be carried on local media outlets and websites including WRCR (1700 AM), WHUD (100.7 FM) and News 12 Hudson Valley.
It is best to rely on more than one source of information when it comes to weather-related announcements. This is particularly true in situations that may involve power outages. Emergency preparedness agencies have advised that residents have access to a battery-powered radio so that they can receive information if other communication channels are unavailable. As always, the district will make every attempt to announce weather-related closings or delays by 5:30 a.m.
Referendum Vote
NRCSD Referendum Vote - 12/4
Did you know? In May 2021, North Rockland voters authorized the establishment of the 2021 Capital Reserve Fund, which could be funded up to $50 million over a 15-year period to support ongoing capital improvements.
On December 4, voters will be asked to allow the District to access $17 million from this Capital Reserve Fund at no additional cost to taxpayers for upgrades to the building and athletics facilities at North Rockland High School. These construction projects will generate revenue in the form of building aid at approximately 80% of approved project costs.

Fall Production - The Critics Give ⭐⭐⭐⭐!
NRHS Drama Society's Fall Production of "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller receives four stars!
In comparing this rendition to Arthur Miller’s original 1949 stage play, it’s commendable how the main actors embodied the complex ethos of their characters. The portrayals of Willy Loman and Linda Loman are difficult tasks for any actor/actress – but NRHS students Jordan B. and Jaylyn C.’s performance were exemplary ones, as well as many of the supporting cast members. 🩺What is medical school really like?🤔
Dr. Richard Evans, MD, Vice President of Surgical Services for Bon Secours Charity Health System and Director of the Bloodless Medicine Surgery Program at Good Samaritan Hospital returned to North Rockland High School today for part two of a Mini Medical College for NR Academy of Health and Science students.
The workshops have been a fascinating and informative introduction for our high schoolers, many of whom will be shadowing at hospitals or medical centers this spring/summer, to the world of modern medicine. The interactive sessions have been similar to the experiences of the first two years of medical school, spanning a broad spectrum of topics, while building upon attendees skill and knowledge base.
