Hadley Constitution Day Program
Hadley social studies classes celebrated Constitution Day on September 17th with activities that connect their content focus to the US Constitution. The 6th graders will spend the year learning about geography and cultures from around the world, so they focused on the 14th amendment, which outlines a path to becoming a US citizen. They tested their knowledge by taking a portion of the actual test required to obtain citizenship. The 6th graders also watched a citizenship ceremony in Chicago and learned about a federal judge who became a citizen as a child after the Holocaust.
7th grade has been learning all about the Constitution throughout the first quarter, so they are our resident experts! To celebrate Constitution Day, they dove deep into the separation of powers and analyzed several primary source documents to look for the separation of powers at work.
8th grade social studies focuses on key eras in US history, so they reviewed all 27 amendments and then played a game where students were randomly given an amendment or the key points from an amendment. They then had to move around the classroom to find their match.
