Staff Learning
While your learners (may have been?) sleeping in this morning, WCSD teachers and staff got up early to spend the day together, learning. At Murwood our staff spent a significant amount of the day working together on how we can best be responsive to students and their needs with our instructional practices. Our work focused on how we use grade level collaboration to continue the work as a Professional Learning Community to participate in ongoing collective cycles of inquiry focused on student learning. And, how we ensure our systems and supports are aligned so we meet our goal for every single student to meet grade level standards.
The afternoon session focused on many important instructional strategies to support learning in the classroom. This included early learning foundations, phonemic awareness, word study, early literacy best practices, small group math instruction, Document Based Questioning in Social Studies, and more. It was a great day!
To all of our families celebrating, I am wishing you a joyous Dia de los Muertos.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day- November 14th
To remember the courageous, historic and nation-changing "walk" of Ruby Bridges in November of 1960, and to promote healthy living, families are invited to walk to school with their children on Tuesday, November 14th to arrive by 8:10am.
Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School. At six years old, Ruby's bravery helped pave the way for Civil Rights action in the American South. ON that day she became the first Black child to attend an all-white primary school in Louisiana.
Now, more than 60 years later, her vision is for children to become the next generation of leaders who create positive change in their communities, one step at a time. Help us honor Ruby Bridges and get inspired to find your passion and strength by walking to school on Tuesday, November 14th.
Message From the Office
Picture Retake Day is this Friday, November 3rd. If your child missed the original picture day in September, is new to the school or you would like their original photo to be retaken, this will be the opportunity to do so. New orders may be placed online at mydorian.com. Search for Murwood Elementary and then select the green order button next to the school retake day event. Online orders can be placed up to 4 days after the retake day. If you are unhappy with the original photo and want a new one taken, please be sure to have your child return the original picture packet to the photographer on retake day.

Fundraising Update
Thanks to our amazing donors, every month we get closer to our $1.5M goal! As of October 31, WCEF has raised over $729,000 - 48% of our goal. Without your support, key programs like TK-5 science lab, World Languages and other electives at WCI and Tice Creek, as well as the 7-period schedule at Las Lomas would not be possible. Thank you to all who have given!
Next month is WCEFβs phone-a-thon! Save us the call and donate if you havenβt made your donation for the school year. Donate today.
