Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families--
Today’s newsletter pretty much speaks for itself…the people here are awesome! It was great to see our ALL of our athletic teams recognized by the WIAA for academic achievement. The idea of being a “dumb jock” is just a myth. In fact, student athletes overall perform better academically than their peers who aren’t involved in sports (or other extracurricular activity). Proud of our teams!
Something that we want to work on with students and parents over the remaining months is Attendance. Attendance covers the following: show up, be on time, be where you’re supposed to be. If every student who drives to school or gets a ride committed to leaving just 5 minutes earlier in the morning, dozens more students would be in first period when the 7:45 tardy bell rings. For example, on Wednesday 29 cars dropped off students between 7:45-7:50 (don’t worry, we’re not keeping track of who it was!). We understand the joy of getting out the door with teenagers! We also think Covid messed with timeliness in general, as it seemed less important when we weren’t physically going to the school building every day. We can get better at this!
Also, did you know our district (including RHS) has a CLOSED CAMPUS policy during the day and that includes lunch time? Since the beginning of the year we have allowed students to eat lunch in their cars (due to Covid social distancing “rules”). Letting students spread out to the parking lot was helpful for that. Now we’re noticing more student cars coming and going during lunch. It’s not a lot, but we’re going to start our own reminders and increase enforcement of this policy over the remaining months as well. We’ll let the kids know why—which is safety, and location. Extra trips to get fast food could result in an accident. Plus, if we needed to locate a student for any reason and we can’t find them where they’re supposed to be, that can be problematic. You know, like when you call the school and we tell you we don’t know where your kid is… Large high schools are impossible to patrol 100%, but again, we can do more. Of course you can help with reminders as well!
Lastly, I didn’t see info in the newsletter about the boys soccer thrilling overtime, shoot-out win over undefeated North Central! What a game guys!
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt

From the Attendance Desk
Reminder- School starts at 7:45am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. School starts at 8:15am on Thursday. We are starting to see more and more students arriving to school at or after the posted start time. This is causing students to be late to 1st period. It's really important that whether a student drives to school or is dropped off, they arrive with enough time to be in class and ready to go at 7:45 (M,T,W,F) or 8:15 (Th) depending on the day. Please talk with your students about the importance of being to school and classes on time.
If your student is absent from school please call our attendance line at 509-558-3801 to excuse their absence.
