Welcome to Mission Possible!
First of all thank you so much for all of your patience, grace and messages of positive affirmation. I know this information has been a long time in coming, but there were just some decisions I couldn't make without the brilliant input of our amazing teaching staff. Teachers are back today! And we have been super busy putting together the details of our plan! Much work happened over the summer getting systems, technology and digital teaching best practices in place. However, please know that all the little details that go into in these two weeks before students start feels as if we are literally building the plan as we fly it! There is no better description than that. As we get our feet underneath us again we will get better and better at this new way of doing things and you will have more lead time and warning about upcoming events.
I fully understand that the information I am sending out today is very last minute and that not every family will be able to rearrange their current reality in order to attend the upcoming Meet the Teachers events on Friday, September 4th for Kinder through 2nd Grades. For this I sincerely apologize. Please know that if you can't make it, we will provide other opportunities to get the iPads handed out.
We have prioritized Kinder-2nd Grades Meet the Teacher Events for this week as we were assigned Friday 9/4 as the day to distribute iPad to all Kinder through 2nd grade students. See below for the details pertaining to your child's grade level.
Please note that we have staggered the schedule by Last Names so as to be in compliance with all health and safety guidelines and social distancing. If at all possible, please come during the correct time frame. We have more than enough iPads so there is no rush to come at the beginning of the window AND if you can't make it, there will be other opportunities to get the iPad.
3rd-5th Grade - we will be sending you more information about what you can expect next week in terms of Meet the Teacher Events, before the end of this week. Again, I apologize for the delay and we will be getting out detailed information as quickly as we can.
When you come to school:
The most important thing is to have your child's student identification number - this will allow us to quickly check one out to you. Below is a form you can use, but if you don't have a printer - please just write your students ID (lunch) number on any piece of paper.
Parking is always an issue, so please stick to your time window, don't linger so that other families my arrive and find parking.
All persons over 5 need to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
Kindergarten Students and Families, Friday 9/4/20 9:00-10:30
Please come directly to the Undercover Area to Meet The Kinder Teachers & Receive a Supply Bag. You may then go to the front of the school to check out your iPad.
9:45-10:30 Last Names N-Z
You may go either to the Undercover Area or the ipad check out (front of school) first - depending on how crowds are ebbing and flowing.
Important! Kindergarten Families - please note that we do not finalize teacher assignments until the second full week of school (9/25). We have a two day assessment period as well as a staggered start for kindergarten. We take this time to get to know students and create well balanced classes. Please help your child understand the fact that the teacher they meet on Friday isn't necessarily the permanent teacher. ALSO it's important to note that teacher assignments may change and shift when and if we enter into a Hybrid model of education.

Who's who at Sato!
Below I have attached Sato's Staff Roster. Please note below the following new staff or staff who have changed roles.
Due to a shift in enrollment numbers in general and because of the Flex Program we did have fluctuation in the number of sections at several grade levels. At this time we have 5 sections in Kindergarten and 4 sections at every other grade level 1st-5th.
We are pleased to welcome:
Although not new to Sato, Courtney Bird is joining the Kindergarten Team as the fifth section of kinder. She taught 1st grade for us last year. She has experience in Kinder and is excited to jump in with our youngest learners!
Kathleen Borjarsky is the speech and language pathologist this year. She has much experience in the District and can't wait to join our amazing special education team!
Emily Gentzkow is the newest member to the 2nd Grade Team. She brings a wealth of experience form her 7 years at Findley Elementary.
Kurt Linder will be our Long Term Sub covering PE for Rob Hansmann through Oct. 4th. He has over 25 years in the district and we are just thrilled he came out of retirement to support us!
Daniel Morantte joins us on the 3rd Grade Team with 5 years of experience at Barnes elementary. He has much interest in all things STEAM and so has just fit right in!
Allison Schrader is our new Social Worker - we do share her with 6 other elementary schools, but I know she will come to love us the best!! :)
Also - we will have two additional Para II educators on staff during CDL to support our Emotional Growth Center and our Resource Room Programs. We are pleased to have Anita Kurpiel and Vijay Arunachalam.
In addition, I wanted to share some important news regarding one of our colleagues. One of the second grade teachers, whom you have known as Mr. Matt Taylor, now identifies as Ms. Bree Taylor and is using she/her pronouns. We are happy to support her new life.
Any questions that you might have should be directed to Annie Pleau, annie_pleau@beaverton.k12.or.us.
Classroom Assignments
Class lists will be finalized by Wednesday 9/2 and you will receive a Welcome Message from your child's teacher on Wednesday afternoon.
