FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
With 1st Trimester coming to a close on Wednesday, November 27th, we are officially one third of the way through the academic year! This afternoon, students will receive their 1st Trimester Report Cards, providing each student with feedback regarding his or her academic performance over the first three months of the school year.
Similarly, I invite you to provide us with important feedback regarding the first three months of the school year by completing a brief survey, which you can find here: http://bit.ly/FJVDParentSurvey
All survey responses are anonymous, and your feedback will help guide the continued enhancement of our school. It is so important that we are intentional about reflecting upon our progress and direction as a school, and I greatly appreciate your assistance in this process. Thank you for your participation and candid responses!
Please be aware that Fr. Woolley and I have also created a survey for parents whose children are not currently enrolled at Fr. Doyle School to help gauge interest in the school. This survey can be found on our school website under "Important Links."
In addition, a few important reminders regarding current and upcoming events:

The Nurse's Corner
Important Reminders for the Winter Season:
- Please call the school when your child is absent and let us know the reason. This let's us know your child is safe at home with you. In addition, if your child has an illness that is contagious, such as strep throat, it is important that we are able to notify other parents that their child may have been exposed to an illness and to watch for signs & symptoms.
- Now that the COLD weather has arrived, please ensure your child has appropriate cold weather attire (i.e. hats, mittens). So long as the temperature is considered safe, students will go outside for recess to get fresh air and play. The RI Department of Education states that outdoor recess should be 15-20 minutes (1-2 times a day) outside as long as the temperature is 32 degrees or above with the wind chill factored in.
Technology News - Hour of Code
With this in mind, consider the following:
- We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
- Only 45% of all high schools teach computer science.
- More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.
- Participating in the Hour of Code is just one example that Father John V. Doyle School is working to teach our students these foundational 21st-century skills
Thank you to Mrs. Adamo for all that she does in preparing our students to be stewards of our technology resources.

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up
Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
