Starting this month, and for the rest of the quarter, the 5th Graders will be studying the reasons behind the European Exploration of the Western Hemisphere.
They will be making connections with all the lasting influences and impacts that the exploration and colonization had on the Western Hemisphere. They will learn about the Columbian Exchange, the mystery behind the Lost Colony of Roanoke, the first successful settlement of Jamestown, as well as the Plymouth Colony.
6th Grade
The 6th Graders will be spending the rest of the third quarter diving into the Ancient Civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and China. We will look at each civilizations' unique government, economic system, social structure, religion, technologies and agricultural practices and products that flourished as a result of favorable geographic characteristics. The cultural practices and products of these early civilizations can be used to help understand the Eastern Hemisphere today.

In Chapter 7, students investigate multiplication of fractions by whole numbers and use models to learn how to multiply fractions by fractions and mixed numbers. Students learn to relate multiplication to scaling and to predict the relative sizes of factors and products
