Parents/Caregivers wanted for MRHS School Council
We look to build a strong school advisory council this year to guide our important work. A school council is a representative, school building-based committee that meets quarterly and is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members, and students. School councils are to assist principals in:
- Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
- Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
- Reviewing the annual school building budget
- Formulating a school improvement plan
- Review the student handbook
If you are interested please send an email message to principal Jennifer Police at jpolice@monomoy.edu indicating your interest in serving on the school council.

SHARK SHOUTOUTS
- Shark Shoutout to the many wonderful student volunteers who helped families find their way during Curriculum Night! Your efforts were so appreciated. -Mrs. Caitlyn Hall
- Students in Sandscript (our creative writing club), National Art Honor Society, Advanced Art, and Photography recently spent a lovely hour at Pleasant Bay. Students wrote, photographed, and drew during their time there and were joined by a handful of writing students from The Riverview School. All the writing, photos, and drawings will become a published booklet that will be available throughout the Monomoy district in school and town libraries, as well as town halls. MANY MANY THANKS to The Friends of Pleasant Bay for their generous grant!!! Thanks to teachers Ciara Gregoli and Amanda Newcomb of MRHS and to Lauren Kalita of The Riverview School! -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle

Let Freedom Read
Banned Books Week is October 1-7, 2023
For more than 40 years Banned Books Week has celebrated the freedom to read and spotlighted both historical and current attempts to censor books from libraries and schools.
When selecting the theme, "Let Freedom Read," the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom stated, "When we ban books, we're closing off readers to people, places, and perspectives. But when we stand up for stories, we unleash the power that lies inside every book. We liberate the array of voices that need to be heard and the scenes that need to be seen."
MRHS Library Media Specialist Sarah Wheaton has put together activities for our celebration on the Let Freedom Read page of the library website.

Help Bring Free Yoga Classes to the Harwich Community Center for MRHS Students
Yoga Neighborhood is interested in making yoga accessible for MRHS students after school, especially those who have difficulty managing stress and anxiety. Their mission is to foster health and wellness across the community through compassionate and empowering yoga that is available to all regardless of age, fitness level, or economic ability. I am looking for caregivers who are interested in joining me to make this potentially healing partnership a reality. Donations of good-condition yoga mats are welcome! Please contact Christina Fonts at cfonts@monomoy.edu to see how you can help.
National Latino - Hispanic Heritage Month
We are thrilled to announce the start of Hispanic Heritage Month! This is a special time of the year where we celebrate and honor the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. This celebration runs from September 15th to October 15th, and it is an opportunity for all of us to embrace diversity, learn about different cultures, and appreciate the unique perspectives that enrich our school community.
Keep an eye on the activities that the Diversity club and the Spanish Teachers will be sharing during this time.
And, ... bye bye, adiós, adeus!

MRHS earns a place on College Board's AP School Honor Roll
MRHS has earned a place on the College Board's AP School Honor Roll for the 2022-23 school year. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success.
MRHS is being further recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage
more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP Exam before graduation is proportional to or above your school's student population, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.

Residential Construction Career Day (RCCD)
Residential Construction Career Day (RCCD) is an award-winning, annual event that is a collaboration between the MassHire Cape & Islands Workforce Board and the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod. The purpose of this event is to encourage local high school students to explore the construction industry through a series of interactive activities. Students are provided with hands-on learning opportunities, as well as the option to speak with industry professionals regarding future employment, internship prospects, job shadow opportunities, and informational interview options. This exposure links students with industry partners and employers within construction and STEM fields. Construction is a priority sector within the region, leading to full-time, year-round employment and self-sufficient wages. RCCD provides an opportunity to promote career pathways in construction and also make an investment in the workforce of tomorrow. Students in Grade 9-12 are invited to complete a permission slip to be returned by October 12. Permission slips are available in Room C115.
