2019-2020 Family Satisfaction Survey
As part of our commitment to continuing growth and improvement, we conduct annual surveys of our community in order to gain insight into our school and its programs. Our 2019-2020 Family Satisfaction Survey will remain open through Friday, January 31st, 2020. Thank you so much your time and effort in providing us with your much-needed feedback. Families who participate in the survey have the option of entering our Trilingual Book Giveaway! At the end of the survey, you will be given details to enter the giveaway. Please remember to save these details. Because surveys are submitted anonymously, we will be unable to verify your submission in order to resend the giveaway details should you lose them. Of course, participation in this year's book giveaway is entirely optional. Thank you, as always, for your support of our community!

January Spirit Night @ Schlotzsky's-Thur., 1/16, 4:00 - 9:00 pm.
This month's Spirit Night supporting AIS will be at Schlotzsky's at the Parmer Lane McNeil Plaza this Thursday. For this event, please rsvp to help us reach our pre-event minimum through our partner, Group Raise, to secure our event participation and give a preliminary headcount to the restaurant.
On Thursday, you may stop by anytime between 4:00 - 9:00 pm but make sure to mention AIS at the register. Stay awhile and mingle with other AIS families, or if you are in a rush - pick it up to go! Schlotzsky's will generously donate 15% of the proceeds back to AIS!
Our Spirit Nights have raised over $1500 and counting this year. So, thank you for joining in on this monthly opportunity to not cook while supporting and spreading the word about AIS.
Gala Tickets and Sponsorships on Sale Now!
Tickets and sponsorship packages are officially on sale for our upcoming 9th Annual Art Gala. This year's event will be held at the beautiful downtown public library on February 22, 2020 from 6:30 - 11:00 pm. We hope you can join us for this celebratory event. Our gala includes silent auction items, a live student art-work auction, a dance party, and a wonderful chance to support your school and mingle with other AISers for a fun, festive night.
If you plan to purchase individual tickets, please do so by next week to guarantee a seat at a table. Purchases past 1/17/20 may be standing cocktail depending upon space availability. We will open space to alumni and outside guests after the 17th, so reserve your space soon! The final deadline for sponsorships or ticket purchases is January 31st. We look forward to seeing you there!
MLK Day/No School-Mon., 1/20
In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, AIS will be closed on Monday, January 20th.
Gala Wine Collection-1/21
Each year, as part of our gala silent auction, we include a "wine cellar" from each class including bottles donated from families wishing to participate. So, if you have a favorite bottle of wine to donate, sign your class and last name with a sharpie (ex: Cheers from the Johnson Family-6e), and bring it to the school at drop-off the week of MLK. Then watch for the awesome wine packages available for silent auction bidding at the event. Thanks for your libation participation!
AEFE Workshop @ AIS-1/22 thru 1/24
On January 22-24, AIS will host a professional development workshop for a group of French educators from North America. This workshop is part of the many workshops offered by our French AEFE network. Ms. Natacha and Ms. Emily will be part of this training. We look forward to welcoming them and showing all the wonderful things we are doing in our school!
Bluebonnet Book Breakfast-Fri., 1/24
On Friday, January 24th, we will hold our 4th Annual Bluebonnet Breakfast in the media center. Students from CE2 through 6eme who have read a least five Texas Bluebonnet Books are welcome to join us for a hearty continental breakfast to celebrate AIS's love of reading. Each student will vote for their favorite nominated Texas Bluebonnet Book. Ms. Amanda will send AIS's tally to the Texas Library Association in order to be counted among the thousands of students that vote throughout the state. The voting will end at 8:10 am. Participating students should bring the following:
- The completed TBB Reading Log (If they misplaced the copies given to them, click here to print out)
- A nut-free breakfast treat to share with 10 people (optional).
Parent Volunteers Needed
We are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of families who give their time to ongoing school efforts. We thank you, as events like Pizza Friday and the weekly Bake Sale couldn't happen without you! If you have an afternoon or two available, thank you for considering signing up to help.
We also are without a few Spring Room Parents! If you are in PS1, PS2, GS2 or CE1a we thank you for considering this important role. Our awesome Room Parent Coordinator, Theresa Pudenz, can help answer any questions you may have and will support your efforts during the year. Thanks again for your consideration and time!
Student Check-In & Out
Officially, only Middle School students may check themselves in and out. We understand kids enjoy the autonomy of entering the codes; however, understandably mistakes often happen without adult supervision. At pick-up, incorrect or missing check-outs often result in accrued late fees and unnecessary administrative and billing errors. When a parent code includes access to other student pick-up rights, this may inadvertently check other students in or out. We thank you for keeping eyes on younger students who participate in the check-out process and all being mindful of the correct procedures. Thank you.
French Bourse Applications for 2020-2021
This week, Mathilde sent out emails to our French families regarding the Bourse scholarship information for the next school year. Packets are available for pickup at reception or the admissions office. All applications are due back to AIS by February 14th, so make sure to get your packet and complete the documentation soon.
2020-2021 School Calendar
The AIS Board of Directors has approved the 2020-2021 school calendar, which you will find published on the AIS website. In close alignment with AIS and RRISD school calendars, the first day of school will be Wednesday, August 19th, 2020 and the last day of school will be Wednesday, June 9th, 2020. We look forward to having you join us for learning, leading, and fun during our 20th year of global education!
Volunteer Artist
We would love to hear from you if you know an artist who will be interested in working with Ms. Virginie, our Art teacher, and come to our school to explain their work and show a few techniques. Please contact Audrey Talarico, Lower School Principal, at audrey.talarico@austinis.org. Thank you!
