Little Hawks Preschool Field Trip
by: Preschool Staff
The Entire Little Hawks Preschool took a field trip the morning of Friday, March 26th. The three classes ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old, spent the morning exploring hands-on learning in many different areas of the Launch Pad in downtown Sioux City. Check out all the photos that captured some of the fun they had.
6th Grade Math Bee
by: Krissy Hansen - 6th Grade
Eight of our top math students in 6th grade were chosen to participate in the 2020-2021 Northwest Iowa AEA’s Math Bee last week. The students involved were: Dawson Spies, Izzy Hodgson, Evan Greigg, Chase Jauer, Zach Anderson, Casen Boeve, Adam Kennedy, and Alex Lindberg.
For the first time, this event was held virtually, with students completing their tests here at school rather than traveling to the AEA. Each student took five individual timed tests and completed one test as a team. The topics included: the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, statistics and probability, and ratios and proportional relationships.
These students did a phenomenal job. They had great attitudes throughout the whole process and enjoyed competing with students from many area schools. They were each awarded a certificate of merit from the AEA. We are all so proud of the hard work and dedication of these math students! Great job, Blackhawks!

Iowa Statewide Assessments of Student Progress (ISASP)
Students in grades 3 and older will be taking the Iowa Assessments the week of April 12th. This will be our second year with the new assessment and new format. The reading, math, and written language assessments will be completed on computers. No #2 pencils needed! Please help your child by making sure he or she is well rested and eats a nutritious breakfast either at home or at school each day that week. Students are also welcome to bring a healthy snack (granola bar, cheese stick, etc.) and a water bottle each day. We want students to stay focused and do their best work. We have very talented, hard-working students and we want their strengths to be evident in their test scores.

FCCLA Update
FCCLA has looked a little different this year due to COVID but members still had opportunities to be involved.
This year we had two teams compete in the FCCLA Knowledge Bowl. Team #1 included members: Brooke Breyfogle, Jacob Vaught, Morgan Stucky, Bella Badar and Haylee Rosenbaum. Team #2 included members: Jadyn Case, Madalyn Fox, Katie Heimgarter, Megan Ream and Isaac Smith. Team #2 qualified to compete in the National competition and will compete against 16 other teams across the country.
This year we have 4 teams competing in STAR events. Below are the members and their teams who will be competing in the Iowa competition on April 1st.
Focus On Children: Callie Breece, Lauren Kounkel and Kadence Peters
Foods Innovations: Ian Hertenstein, Kyra Peters and Sara Skuodas
Food Innovations: Jadyn Case, Maddie Fox and Katie Heimgartner
Public Policy Advocate: Brooke Breyfogle, Rylee Johnson and Jacob Vaught
We wish these members the best of luck as they compete against other members from across the state. The top two projects in each category will move on to the national competition that will be held this summer.
Not only are members competing in STAR Events, but two members are using their leadership skills to help lead the organization in new directions. Member Megan Ream took the challenge to run for a Northwest Iowa FCCLA District officer and was elected to be secretary. Megan is also running for a state office position and will be elected and installed on April 1st. Congratulations Megan!!
Madalyn Fox will be representing Hinton and Iowa by running for a National Office position this summer! Best of luck to Maddie!
If anyone would like more information about FCCLA, I encourage you to check out our state (www.iowafccla.org) and national (www.fcclainc.org) websites!
Nursing News
It is already time to think about getting ready for the 2021-2022 school year and be ahead of the summer rush. What do you need for your child for Nurse Tina?
- Incoming tk/k- roundup medical papers that you were given in February. This includes a physical, lead level, vision, dental and update immunizations.
- Incoming 3rd grade-a vision form which was sent home with your child and your teacher sent you an email from me explaining.
- Incoming 7th grade-immunizations to include a Tdap and Meningitis vaccine. Reminder, there is no grace period and it has to be turned into me prior to your child starting. Your child only took home a form if I did not have these on file.
- Incoming 9th grade- current dental form. These were mailed to you.
- Incoming 12th grade-a 2nd Meningitis vaccine after the age of 16. Your child brought this form to you if I did not have one on file. There is no grace period and has to be turned in prior to your child starting their senior year.
