James Bennett Inducted into Washington Music Education Association Hall of Fame
Honoring Past Board Members Rosa Torres and Vincent Guerrero
During a special recognition, we thanked and honored our past board members, Rosa Torres and Vincent Guerrero, for their service.
Rosa Torres served on the Pasco School District school board, having been appointed on February 28, 2023, and dedicated a year to serving Pasco students and the district.
Vincent Guerrero, appointed on April 25, 2023, also spent a year contributing to the betterment of Pasco students and the district as a member of the school board.
Thank you, Rosa and Vincent, for your voluntary commitment, which has positively impacted our students, community, and future.
District’s Key Priority Report: AVID Districtwide Study Session
Mira Gobel, Assistant Superintendent of Schools & Social Emotional Learning, updated the Board on Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), detailing its alignment with PSD’s Outrageous Outcomes, providing updates on districtwide implementation, and discussing leadership capacity. Following the presentation, board members had the chance to witness 'AVID in Action' by rotating tables and hearing from AVID site coordinators at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels.
The study session concluded with a presentation from Curie STEM Elementary, the sole AVID showcase elementary in Eastern Washington. They shared some of their best practices and responded to questions from the Board.
Superintendent’s Student Action Council January Update
PSD Student Board Representatives Kimberly Joya Manzanarez and Samantha Quiroga presented a recap of the Student Action Council meeting held on January 24, 2024.
During the meeting, students examined the initial boundary scenarios and maps, gathered feedback from their peers for incorporation into the planning process, and distributed a QR code to collect additional student input. Additionally, they offered an update on the progress of the Student Voice Program.
The upcoming Student Action Council meeting is scheduled for February 21, 2024.
Comprehensive High School #3 Harvest View High School Branding Survey Update
Anna Tensmeyer, Director of Public Affairs, presented the findings from the Comprehensive High School #3 Branding Survey and provided information in accordance with District Policy 9250 and 9250 P Naming of Schools, in preparation for Board action.
Survey results regarding the preferred name for the new high school are as follows:
- Sageview High School – 48.83% (2,602 votes)
- Desert Vista High School – 27.74% (1,478 votes)
- Harvest View High School – 23.44% (1,249 votes)
Based on the survey results, the Board took action during the meeting to change the name of Comprehensive High School #3 from Harvest View High School to Sageview High School.
Additionally, survey results for color options for the high school names were presented. Mrs. Tensmeyer announced that district staff are prepared to proceed with the community’s top choice for Sageview High School, which includes the forest green, black, white, gray, and sage color palette.
Construction Projects Update
Raúl Sital, Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Supports, provided an update on the construction of Comprehensive High School #3 and an overview of the Orion High School design.
We are currently in the 31st week of construction for High School #3, and everything is proceeding according to the schedule. The school is on track to open in the fall of 2025. View drone footage of the construction progress.
The Capital Projects team submitted a building permit application to the City of Pasco for Orion High School and is awaiting approval. The Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) has received approval, and the constructability review by a third party has been successfully completed. Additionally, the Capital Projects team participated in a determination hearing at the City of Pasco on February 14 for the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
